About Me

I was born in 1977 in Kakamega County and joined primary school at Museno until 1994; thereafter I joined Museno Secondary until 1998. I traveled to Mombasa County in search of job opportunities, where I started working as an unskilled labourer in construction sites. The job was kind of difficult; therefore, I decided to start saving little by little so as to start my own business. I saved about Ksh. 5,000 ($48) and bought a shaving machine, rented a premise, and ventured into the hair cutting business, which has sustained me til now. I have been able to foot my bills and pay school fees for my children, even through numerous challenges, especially when inflation bites.

My Business

I offer haircut services to my customers, but due to competition the pricing has to be quite appealing, besides offering services like washing the head with detergent after shaving -- simple things so that customers have a nice experience when they visit my premise. I had grown to like this business ever since I could visit my uncle, who used to own one, and learn a few skills for myself. I usually make a profit of about Ksh. 600 ($6) per day, which increases during weekends and holidays. With Zidisha, I hope to start selling things like school bags, toys, shoes, etc. (which customers usually ask for) to boost my profitability both in high and low seasons, which can cater for things like school fees.

Loan Proposal

After [buying] another shaving machine and shoes and bags, the business was quite a morale booster. I now [want to purchase] stocks of shoes at $10, bags at $10, spirits and powder at $5, and use the remainder for buying salon accessories for my wife, who is jobless, so that she can engage herself in economic activities that generate income for the family to enable us pay school fees for our children.

    Dear Kizito,

The inquiry you recently posted here has been removed. Please send that to "[email protected]" and please place "KENYA" (followed by a dash and then a word or two indicating what the email is about) in the Subject line of your email for faster routing to the correct team. (Please always allow up to three business days for a reply before emailing again on the same topic.)

The Discussion page is for communicating with the lenders from the public who contributed money toward the full funding of your loan, about your business and, if you wish, about your life in general (and theirs, too, if they wish to share).

Most lenders are not on the Zidisha Administrative Staff and cannot help you with anything administrative about loans (credit limit, disbursement, repayments, etc.). For help with those things, you always need to email the Staff.

    Thanks so much! :-)

    Kind regards,
    Laurie
    The Zidisha Team
