About Me

I am a lady aged 24 years a second born in a family of three (3). I completed my form four course in the year 2008, and there after joined Kenya Institute of Management where i pursed a Diploma in Procurement Management. I live in Masii area which is a few kilometers drive from Machakos town. I started a small business early this year because in the century we are living in, employment is not easy to find. I benefit a lot from this business because i earn a living and i also support my family a lot especially my baby brother who is in college. I like traveling and adventure, making new friends and socializing and reading books and articles. I also like visiting the needy especially children like i have visited Machakos Rescue Center severally and given the girls sanitary pads and under-wears for free.

My Business

I own a cyber business in Masii market, where i offer printing and photocopy services too. In this area, there are very many primary and secondary schools therefore my services are useful to the teachers and students. there are usually very many customers in need of this services because i usually give the best and i have kind, and hardworking cyber attendants who attend to them very well and with a lot of courtesy. They prefer my cyber to any other because i offer services with reduced charges, and the network for the cyber is very fast and efficient. Technology has changed a lot therefore a lot can be done on the internet that is why this business has a high demand. People use Google to research on very many topics.
I however, undergo a number of challenges for instance when there is no electricity in the whole market, i don't make sales because all the services offered are electricity based. I am also loosing very many clients who need binding and laminating services, which i have noted with a lot of concern that they are on the rise this days, and this is the main reason as to why i am applying for this zidisha loan. I wanted to purchase a binding machine and a lamination machine as well.

Loan Proposal

I have seen an opportunity in document processing ending with folder creation.these are documents for the schools, churches organizations as well as government offices.this includes laminating the documents to ensure that they last as well as binding to create books.
To this venture,i would appreciate the zidisha loan as it will facilitate me buy the binding and laminating machines.A brand new binding machine costs USD63 while a brand new A4 laminating machine costs USD 68.
From my current services, introducing these two new services will increase my net earnings. This will also help me lock in the customers who frequent my business premises wanting these services as well as make my place a one stop shop for computer services.
The loan will go along way7 in fostering my business.

First I would like to appreciate the assistance extended to me through the zidisha loan by the zidisha fraternity. I would like to change the amount to a more comfortable one.i want to reduce the amount scheduled for me because i find it too much for me as far as my business is concerned. I find 1,500/- a fair amount for me to pay weekely because right now the market has gone down abit because most of my customers are schools and they are having exams so they do not require many services.secondly, thea is alot of power outage because of the rains.i will really appreciate if you reduce this amount for me. thank you in advance.

    Dear Agnes,
    congratulations on your new loan!

As to your remaining challenge (electricity supply), I thought I'd share with you the experiences of two other cybercafés in Kenya: One regarding Uninterruptible Power Supply, having gone from a UPS that could handle a 2 h power cut, to one that can handle 8 computers over 12 h (www.zidisha.org/microfinanc...). Also a cybercafé using electricity from the sun: 41'000 shillings for panel, battery, inverter and installation. When fully charged it runs 6 computers for 5 h, and if it doesn't rain continuously, it can handle the whole day (www.zidisha.org/microfinanc...).

All the best for the future!
    Mårten
