About Me

My name is Elizabeth Vukusi, born and raised in Western Kenya. This region is one few areas of Kenya with good climate for agriculture. It has a tropical rain climate where it rains throughout the year. In fact Kakamega forest which is near where I was born is the only true tropical forest in the region.

As with other regions with high agriculture potential, the area suffers from a problem of overpopulation. The farms are so small such that I does not make economic sense to do farming there. Due to this problem, I decided to relocate to Mombasa to live with a friend just after my secondary education.

Mombasa is a big city (by our standards) and I liked the place the moment I landed here. My friend was in business of selling vegetables and I learned fast from her and opened my own stall after a few months. I had very little money to start me off but I am glad the business is still standing three years later.

I am a mother of two kids.

My Business

I run a green grocery stall. This is a makeshift structure across the road where I stock my green vegetables. Most of the produce come from the countryside and then I buy then from a big market called Kongowea where farmers come to sell their harvests. This is repeated daily since most of the goods are perishable and there are no refrigeration facilities.

I sell produce such as cabbage, sukuma wiki (kales), bananas, tomatoes etc since almost every homestead uses these items. I make about $10 per day but half of it goes into my expenses. I use the profit to cater for my family expenses.

Loan Proposal

I am still selling green vegetables which I buy from wholesalers and then retail them from my outlet. This outlet is a makeshift structure by the roadside (as seen on the profile photo). While it has served me well since I started the business, it has some shortcomings. This becomes more apparent during the extreme weather condition - when it is very hot or rainy.

For this reason, I need a construct a good structure that can protect me from the elements. The building materials will cost me $100 and labor charges an extra $20. I will use the remaining balance to buy additional stock in anticipation of increased sales.

Dear lenders, I have talked to Margaret Wangari through a phone call, who is in charge of this loan repayment since Elizabeth is not within the country, unfortunately we didn't come to a consensus because it was like she was not aware that she has not made any payment for the last three weeks.
However, I will still get to her and know when exactly she is going to resume the repayment as per the new schedule.

As indicated in my earlier post, I relocated from Kenya and left my business in the hands of a trusted person. However, the transition has not been very smooth and she is finding it difficult to repay the loan at the current rate. I am yet to settle well in this new place and I cannot remit money back home as yet. I therefore request to reduce my weekly payment to KES 100 until the business improves or if I find a way of remitting money back home from here.

    Dear Lenders,

I apologize for the delay in working out this situation! I've been in contact with Elizabeth and we have set up an alternate method for her to make payments via a friend's line while she is out of the country. She has been in good contact with us, even while being away from Kenya and we appreciate her patience in resolving this!

Hi Emmanuel, just to put the record straight, Margaret had no bad intention, she and I thought it is possible to send my repayments via her phone but when she did it, the money was credited to her account. This is when we were advised to use another line which is not registered with Zidisha to make the payments. Thanks for your effort and I am glad the problem seems to be sorted out now.

Hi VM, I travelled out of the country and will take a while to come back. I had left some money with the person who introduced me to Zidisha to be sending it when it falls due. Unfortunately, the money was credited to her account. I have emailed Zidisha 3 times regarding this issue and they have not replied yet.

Hello Elizabeth, There are a two things I ask you to consider:
        * I suggest you ask Margaret Wangari, who I understand introduced you to send an email on the matter (and include you in the circulation..that is c.c. you.)
        * Also sending 3 emails is one thing, but it is also how much time you have allowed them to deal with the matter is also an issue.

        Regards,

Thanks Roy for your suggestion. Margaret sent an email about a month ago and it was not replied to. Kindly do whatever you can to help me resolve this matter because I do not want to fail my lenders.

Thank you so much lenders for the trust you have shown in me. I will reciprocate by paying back the loan as per the schedule. I will now start doing the works in earnest once the money is disbursed to me. God bless you all.

My loan is 8% funded and I am still left with $267 to be fully funded. My loan is left with 4 days to expire and I am pleading with all lenders to come to my aid. Thank you.

Thank you lenders for your great support. I have just completed repaying my loan and this was my first loan ever. I am happy that it all went well and my business has improved greatly. I hope and pray that I will have the same success in my second loan.

I have been paying KES 500.00 from the time I made my first payment as opposed to KES 200.00 that I had stated when applying for the loan. I was trying to see whether I can manage to repay the bigger amount consistently and I am glad my business has grown and hence I can repay this amount comfortably.

Thanks a lot Zidisha for being part of this growth.
