About Me

I spent most of my childhood and primary education in Kawangware where I currently reside. Due to financial difficulties I was not able to further my studies to college despite getting good grades in high school. I started doing casual jobs to avoid relying on my parents and in the process when doing a construction project my employer saw something that prompted her to employ me in one of her clothing store to be running errands. Due to my handwork, resilience and curiosity to learn more I was trained and promoted to a sales assistant position and that is when I realized I was good in sales and have never looked back since. I am currently employed in a bridal store.

My Business

I have been employed in the sales field for over 13 years now. My love for dressing people, customers complimenting my work and the need to be my own boss motivated me to venture into business. Due to the high costs of starting a high end retail clothing shop and importation costs I saw it wise to start a second hand store where I would target the medium and low income earners. I observed and realized there were very few shops that specialized in men clothing and saw the gap of men shirts which was scarce yet 90% of men you meet are wearing shirts. This is when the idea of “Stylishats Boutique” kicked off in March 2016, a shop that specializes in stylish, quality, designer gently used shirts.

I used most of my income that I had saved up in an investment policy to start the business and also my employment salary kept me going. My major expenses are stocking, rent and salaries and most of the profits I receive is currently reinvested back into the business, and improve my family living standards. My wife helps manage the business and I re-stock and take care of the financials as well as training the staff.

Since I joined Zidisha I have been able to expand further with the financial help I have received by increasing my inventory and opening another branch in my rural home where I do my clearance sale from for the items that are not doing well in town.

Loan Proposal

I am requesting for a loan of 213 dollars to acquire business trading licenses and introduce boy shirts inventory for my shop.
I have been operating my business without any trading license and this has been a frustrating and expensive experience, I have had to part with a lot of money making payments three times a week to the city council, I have also been forced to operate without any form of entertainment in my shop because the last time the public performance license officers visited my business and found I was playing music without a license they warned I get one or stop playing any form of entertainment to the public.
If granted the loan I will acquire a business permit that will cost about 50 dollars and a Public performance license that will cost about 35 dollars. I will spend 8 dollars for any miscellaneous expenses during the acquisition of the two permits.
This will save me a lot of money that I pay weekly and if I am able to play music again it will create a better atmosphere as well as help customers feel more relaxed and create a better working environment for my staff.
In addition to this I am planning to add boy shirts inventory to my collection. I have received numerous request to introduce boy shirts and in my efforts to be customer centric, I did market research on it and found it viable and will not affect but enhance my core business hence the need for the loan.
If granted the loan I will buy 60 pieces of boy shirts at 2 dollars each, this in return I will sell at 150% profit which will easily repay the full loan as well as continue to improve my business, grow my brand and raise my family living standards.
Thank you in advance for your consideration and looking forward once again to your funding.

    Hi Lenders,
Kindly bear with me as I make adjustments to my installment amount and hopefully the financial strain will ease for me and business picks up.
As I do my best to make sure the business is back to its performance days, rest assured I will increase the installment as soon as I can afford.

    Hi Lenders and Zidisha team,
Thank you for your patience and understanding on my financial situation and I remain apologetic for non payment of my loan.
I was able to open the shop being renovated last month but with a lot of financial challenges. I previously explained the carpenter who had taken up the job did not show up despite having paid him labor costs and I was forced to engage another person to finish the job, this forced me to borrow from another source which also proved to be expensive due to high interest rate. I delayed also paying rent for the premises because it was not in operation for several months and on two occasions the landlord locked me out and charged me penalties to re-open.
I am however glad all this is behind me and the shop is now operational and business slowly picking up. Rest assured I will continue with the repayments and I remain hopeful to regain your trust.
    Be blessed.

    Hi Lenders and Zidisha team,
Apologies for non repayment of my zidisha loan due to unfavorable business conditions and unavoidable circumstances.I also regret not communicating or adjusting my repayment schedule as required.
I lost focus due to employment stress the past month that almost costed me my job and affected how I re-stocked my businesses. I am yet to re-open the branch that I was renovating the interior due to challenges of the carpenter not showing up to finish the work despite having paid him 70% of the labor costs and purchasing all the required materials. The other branch being in Kawangware neighborhood was affected by the election campaigns and political clashes experienced that led to closure for two weeks.
Business is now slowly picking up and I have opted to get another carpenter to finish the renovations hoping to re-open the closed branch by the end of November. I have adjusted my repayment schedule to an amount I can repay comfortably under the circumstances and rest assured I will work hard to rebuild the lost trust.
Sorry again for any inconvenience caused.

Hi lenders, hope you all had a good weekend. As promised these are the images of the changes in one of my shop. I have improved the inside and outside lighting with the light fittings I bought with the loan, I have also bought and displayed two full size mannequins to enhance visibility of my products. I have also bought additional inventory. The other branch shelve work is also in progress and will keep you updated. Thank you lenders and Zidisha for making this possible!

Hi Lenders, I am very delighted to report I finished repaying my loan amount despite the political challenges that affected the business performance. The inventory that I got really made a difference in giving the variety I was after and stocking the new shop. The new shop started off on a high and only slowed down last month because of the national elections but now business is slowly resuming. Thanks again for your help and may you be blessed.

    Hi lenders,
The last few weeks have been very challenging business wise. I have seen reduced sales which I believe has been caused by the approaching date to the general elections in my country Kenya, 8th August.
I have struggled to make my loan installments and seen it best to adjust my installments to an amount I can comfortably pay. Please rest assured as soon as the business environment changes and I can afford I will adjust it upwards. Thank you for understanding.

Hi Lenders, I have finished repaying my loan and very thankful for your financial support.
I however encountered challenges on my new business idea to introduce boy shirts, it did not perform as anticipated and eventually I have had to sell the shirts at cost price because they were not selling. Despite this they are still selling slowly but hopefully I will clear the stocks and invest the money in the core business.
I came to learn after researching and inquiring from my regular clientele that the biggest reason they were not selling was my core business attracted male clientele who were not keen on buying for their children and had left that responsibility to the mothers.
My core business continues to flourish and recently I have partnered with my mother and brother to open one at my rural home (Moi's bride, Kitale)
Thanks again and will keep you updated.

Hi Lenders and thank you for your patience on my update, I am yet to acquire the business permit due to new regulations, I have been made aware a unified licence has been introduced which consolidates permits to operate a business. I am required to pay fire licence which has been made compulsory in addition to the business permit which will cost me about 40 dollars additional. I am hoping to raise the amount within a short period of time with the profits I am getting from the shirt sales. Will keep you updated on the progress.
