About Me

I am Gladys Wangechi, born in Nyeri county of Kenya. I am a trained teacher teaching in a local secondary school. I also do farming as a side business to supplement my salary, which is not enough to cater for all the family needs.

I am married with two children, aged 5 and 7 years old. My husband works in another city where he operates a taxi business.

My Business

I do modern farming where I grow tomatoes in a greenhouse. I started this project three years ago after undergoing training, which was conducted by an NGO that advocates for self-reliance.

It has been a wonderful experience since my land, which had been bare for many years, can now produce healthy tomatoes for family consumption and also for sale. I make about 1,500 USD per year from the sale of these tomatoes. I have plans to diversify to more crops like strawberries in the near future.

Loan Proposal

This is my second loan at Zidisha. My farming business is doing well and the future looks bright. I have planned to buy a water pump that I will use to pump water from the borehole for watering my plants.

I am currently doing this using pulleys which is very tiresome and slow. A pump the size I want to buy with all the necessary accessories will cost me $200. I will therefore spend the entire amount from this loan to buy the pump which will definitely make my work easier and increase productivity.

I take this opportunity to thank the lender who funded my last loan single-handedly. I do not take it for granted and I am glad that I have repaid the loan fully. The money was very useful in my farming project and I have increased my production.

Hi Gladys. God has blessed me in order that I may be a source of blessing to others. I am just trying to be a good steward of what He has entrusted to me. Just as your farm needs an ample supply of water, we all need the living water of God in order to truly live. Saving time and money gives you the ability to invest that time into other more productive things, and this is good. Many blessings to you and your family.

Thank you lenders for giving us this rare opportunity to access affordable credit. The money from my first loan helped me acquire bees which are very essential in my greenhouse project. I no longer hire the pollinators and this has saved me time and money.
