My name is Julius Ndegwa Kinuthia. I was born and brought up in Muranga, one of the 47 counties of Kenya. This is a farming area where we have two rain seasons. We grow food crops such as maize, beans and potatoes as well as cash coffee which is the main cash crop in this area.
I am married with one child who is two years old and yet to decide what he wants to be in future. We are a happy family though we do not have much material wealth but we work very hard to improve our livelihood.
I am a farmer and this is what I have done since I left school more than 10 years ago. I grow food crops for now but I hope to grow cash crops in future if I manage to get a bigger piece of land.
I also keep chicken and I am a proud owner of 2 cows. These are very important because I am able to sell eggs and milk and get paid on daily basis. I use this money to meet the many needs of my family.
My weekly income from this venture is about USD 40 but this can go up significantly when I harvest the crops.
I currently have 20 chicken which are an important source of eggs for my family consumption as well as selling the extra ones in the market where I get some income.
I will use money from this loan to buy 15 more chicks so as to double the egg production in a few months to come. This will enable me to sell more eggs in the market since there is a ready demand for the same.
