About Me

My name is Dorothy Mwongela, and I was born and raised in Eastern Kenya. I am the fourth born in a family of 8, and having been raised by a single parent, I learnt how to work at a young age in order to pay for us to live. food and many others.i am the forth born in the a family of eight.

I am a mother of two, the eldest is 12 and the youngest is 7. We live in a town called Kitengela, situated in the town of Kiajiado, 40 km from Nairobi. I was able to save some money and start a clothing and cosmetic business, also selling jewellery, toys and handbags.

I operate a small boutique shop, selling unisex clothing for adults and children, along with some cosmetics.I started this business 2 years ago due to my sense of fashion, but most of all to provide for my family. The earnings I get from my business usually go towards paying rent, adding more stock and the rest is used for my family's upkeep.

I am seeking this fund to expand my business and take it to a new level. I currently source my stock from Eastleigh town malls, before reselling here in Kitengela. My mission is to get enough capital and travel to Kampala as well as Turkey and get more stock since they are a bit cheaper there.

My vision is to source clothes from Dubai and Turkey within the next two years.

My Business

Since starting the business two and a half years ago, I have seen huge potential for growth. My customers prefer my shop because it has all they need: both kids and adults clothes and cosmetics. However, I face a lot of competition because of the many shops around, but due to giving my clients the best deals, I have maintained a lot of business, making my business renowned in the area.

My monthly income is $750
House rent $187
Electricity $25
Water $12
Wages $100
Salary $200

I intend to expand and diversify my business with the second loan. I plan to visit countries like Turkey and even Uganda to buy items that I do not currently stock (wallets, handbags etc.), and wish to source new cosmetics from different areas in order to introduce my customers to new trends and fashions. Customers have been demanding more varieties from outside of the country, so I shall re-invest all the loan money into my business, allowing my business to grow, and for me to repay the loan. I hope by getting this loan I will make it a one stop variety shop.

Loan Proposal

My big plan is to buy a singer heavy machine which is around $192.4 ,the machine is used to stitching of fabrics but my plan is I want to stitch curtains for both public premises and private house,am staying in a new developing area where there is no such businesses ,so am so lucky to pioneer the market ,having done field work and discovered the residents go up to the town centre or capital city to look for designers and tailors to make for them curtains ,so being the first to start these businesses I will hit the market greatly
Am also intending to buy materials ,such as threads needles pattern materials and making more catalogue and samples so that I can be able to market well my work the materials total cost is around $96.24
$48 will pay house rent
$28.8743will use to pay electricity
$19.2495will be used to transport machines and materials to my shop
Per window an charging $62.5610and doors at $28 am aiming big houses with more than 10 windows and over 7 doors ,here in Kenya we use curtains because of prevention of cold and dust so everybody use them at there houses ,restaurants hotels and even Churches, so am making business through stitching them because they are in high demand ,since where am staying is new growing area with no such business around
