About Me

My name is Bernard Murithi Kiriinya. I was born on 12th February 1987. at the age of 5years i started my primary education at St. Theresa's Primary School where i completed my primary education in 2002.later on i joined Chuka High School in 2003 for my high school education and completed my Kenya Secondary Certificate Education 2006.
The main hardship i encountered after completing high school was raising the capital to start my agribusiness venture which was about $550.00 (apr. 47,000 KES), that includes the cost of putting up the farm structures and acquiring a heifer.
The idea of rearing cattle, came to me when i needed money for my upkeep, and the farm needed organic fertilizer which would be readily available if i had kept a dairy cow. with this in mind,I started milking the cow after its first calving. I sold the milk daily to get income, thereafter it has developed into a small scale agribusiness which i intend to expand after acquiring the capital.
My home place has a cool and wet climate which is best for dairy farming. Animal fodder is readily grown in our farm.
after my first loan with zidisha i can say the dairy farming is well and can be able to learn that's why i have decided to venture in veg growing and supplies.
I want my children to get quality education and have all the resources to see them succeed in life.
my hobby is reading articles on entrepreneurship and also motivational books, traveling is also an important aspect of my pastime activity.

My Business

I have one employee who takes care of my dairy cows and also helps in my small scale horticulture farm, whom i pay about $80.00 per month. I sell kale's, cabbages and tomatoes to supplement my revenue..
These services are useful because they offer a permanent employment to my employee. These goods are on high demand such as vegetables, which is on high demand on the planting season.kales specifically are on high demand in my area, therefore the goods and services are useful.
I chose this business because i had a passion and a lot of curiosity for agribusiness, the climate favors the business too.
Monthly i spend about $120.00 farm inputs , extension services costs and land maintenance . The costs increase as the number plots incvreases.
I reinvest part of my profits in my growing business. I also use the other part in home improvements .

Loan Proposal

once my proposal has been funded, i will use the money to upgrade the breed of my cattle through better Artificial Insemination services which amounts to $15.00 (apr. 1200 kshs.), because i am also operating a small farm specializing in horticulture, i will use $25.00 (Apr. 2000.00 kshs) for the purchase of certified seeds, insecticides and foliar fertilizer. the remaining $10.00 (Apr. 800.00 kshs) will be security in case the first attempt of artificial insemination fails.
through better dairy cattle breed, i get to have higher yields in term of milk production and also better breed for sale to my fellow community members. at the same through planting certified seeds i get harvest better crops which will attract higher prices in the market compared to what i currently have.
