About Me

My names are John Ndegwa, 35 years old, male head of the family, with two sons in Nakuru county, Rift Valley province, Kenya.I completed my O-level studies and managed to do a short course of Entrepreneurship, after that I was employed in supermarket as a sales man for six years where got vast experience in marketing and after that my contact ended. Bearing in mind that getting another job was a challenge and I had a family to look after, I decided to start a grocery store with the money I had saved during the contract period. The business picked very well and with the earnings that I got from the business I managed to purchase three trays for keeping eggs in a safe manner and the rest of the amount I spent for the daily basic needs of my family.

My Business

My grocery store primarily, sells groceries such as milk, eggs, vegetables, fruits and special services such as take-out food. It is located at Bahati town which is strategically located.

The target populations are the residents of the surrounding town and passengers who stop to buy stuffs while going to upcountry and hence high demand for the products. The business is profitable as I have been selling the products for the last two years thereby building a close relationship with customers, in- addition to curtsey, cleanliness and understanding the customer needs, all those factors have made a repeat purchase for most of my customers and also attracting new customers.

The business faces various risks including buying products/stocks in small quantities, limited space to cater for the needs of my customers, lack of proper equipments for storage such as fridge to store milk and vegetable to prevent them from going bad for a short time, bearing in mind that most of the products are perishable. With assistance of a loan I will be able to buy a modernized fridge for storage of milk, vegetables, fruits and also extending the capacity of the business to accommodate for more customers. Monthly costs Kshs 56,000, Sale revenue Kshs 34,000,Net Profit Kshs 22,000

Loan Proposal

Dear Lenders and the Zidisha Organization,Thanks alot for giving me a chance for the second loan. The First loan really help my business to grow and add value within the town, which have made significant improvements in terms of gaining new customers.
First,i will add more stocks in my fruits parlor and buy a modernized fridge for preservation of perishable goods like milk, fruits among other goods. The remaining amount of money will all channeled to my shop for the addition of stock.

Dear Zidisha team & the lending panel,
Sorry for not informing you about my situations on time. For the last one & half months i had been not feeling well health-wise ,which even made me to be hospitalized after i was diogonised with Malaria & Typhoid.I have been admitted at the Rift-Valley General Hospital-Kenya.I was discharged on the 09th November, although i am still under medications and i am improving well.

This has made me to be not consistent with my loan payments.I am kindly appealing to the Zidisha team for a one week recess ,hence after that 1 week i will go back to my business and i will start it off, then later i will send my loan installments for the last month.Kindly i apologize for the delay.

    Regards,
    John Ndegwa.

To the lenders and zidisha team,it is another time of requesting the team to postpone my payments to the month of October 15,2014.The business has been facing varous challenges including the poor weather conditions, making the customers demands of the fruits to be low.i am making sure that i will send some more once the business picks up.Thank you.

To the entire zidisha microfinance management and the lending panel.I am fine back here in Kenya, although my fruits parlor is not doing as it used to,during the sunny season.for now this part of kenya called Bahati is experiencing cold spells, making my customers not to order the fruits as they used to,making me not to meet my August payment on time.i am however waiting to see how this month will translate since the weather is changing to better.kindly accept my apology and reschedule my loan to a new payment figure.thank you to you all.

I am so great for the support you have endlessly offering to my business. For this month i was not able to send my loan installment on time but i am requesting to be given additional time so that i can reshape my self and send my loan for this month.I had been facing various challenges whereby i had to close my business for a while. This happened due to the construction which was going on here in Bahati by the contractor having been forcing us to close our businesses around due to the hygienic standards. There was heavy dusts which was polluting into our businesses. For now he had finished repairing the road and i am planning to re-open coming Monday.
I will therefore in the course of this Month send my installments as usual.Thank you and sorry for the inconveniences caused.John Ndegwa

Hi all the Zidisha fraternity and the lenders in particular. For a while now i have been quiet in communicating to you.I have been away for a period of two weeks where i had attended the funeral and burial of my big brother out of town.It has been a long week for me especially for me and my family too.God provided us with His Grace and we were able to rest him on Friday last week.
For this reason,I am going to send my other balance the coming week as i will have some profit.I am sincerely apologizing for the delay and promise to keep the promise.Thank you all and enjoy your day.

    John.

Hi all the zidisha team and the lending panel,i have been doing good in my business although for the last couple of weeks,my business has dropped due to the low turnout of the people in town. Most of my clients have traveled out of town for their April holidays, but am expecting them to be back as soon as the schools are almost opened.I cannot regret much as i am still working in my fruits parlor shop and i am expecting the customers who are visiting in this area to taste my fruits and juices.Otherwise to all my lenders,i am going to end this problem sooner and we will continue as normal.I wish to express my humble greeting from my family to all the Zidisha team for your kind generosity towards empowering our business.Thank you and God bless you all.

Hi Crissr, i hope you are doing fine back in the U.S.A.back here in Kenya i doing good and my business too.I was asking who's loan was wiped out and for what reasons? It is good to be patient although too much of rescheduling does not make sense at all.For me i'm doing all it takes to start paying mine from this month date of payments.Thank you and thanks for your concern.John.

        Mr. Ndegwa,

I'm sorry if I didn't make myself clear. Zidisha has a bug in the system which wipes out (or at least cuts down drastically on the amount owed) when a borrower reschedules a loan. It only happens to some loans and it is not the fault of the borrower. My previous message was just to alert Zidisha that this had happened to your loan.

Thanks Crissr, now i have understood what you meant.I had reported the matter to the Zidisha team, but up to now i have not seen even a change.I will keep on reminding them so that they rectify this.Otherwise my business is doing good as we are in the sunny season and my clients are coming to quench their thirsts in my fruits parlor. Thanks and have a splendid week ahead.

How are you my worthy good people from the zidisha team and the lending panel. It has been a good month of February and to my business too.Although my business has been doing fine,i am planning to reschedule the payment programme just for a while. The reason is that,This month i have renewed my annual license from the local authority and for sure they have tripled their payments this year for the license, thus making my programme to have a financial hitch.I believe that in two weeks time i will be able to be back on track and pay you my worthy business partners.Have a lovely weekend to you all.
