About Me

I am 34 years old, married with four children, three of them are schooling. I live in Kiptangwanyi centre, Kiambogo division, Gilgil District, Nakuru county. I am a businessman,. I started as a boda boda operator, where I switched to puncture repairing. I started the business in this area after I realized that the area had a problem in addressing the issue of punctures. I use my earnings to improve on my business since I dont have an opportunity where I can get enough cash to expand my business.

My Business

My business is located at Kiptangwanyi shopping centre. kiptangwanyi centre is located at 41 km from Nakuru town which happens to be our nearest major centre. the shopping centre is about 12km from Elementaita trading centre which is mostly known as it was a colonial shopping centre. Kiptangwanyi is in Nakuru county, Gilgil district, kiambogo division, Miti Mingi location, Kiptangwanyi sublocation. My business is near the matatu stage in Kiptangwanyi shopping centre. My business entails the services of repairing punctures for motorbikes, vehicles and even bicycles. There is very high demand of this service since the area is remote, the roads are poor and we are also far away from town making this services very crucial in this area. Customers prefer my services since I offer unique, quality services and at a fairer prices as compared to my competitors. The business is profitable since there are so many boda boda operators in the area making the business profitable. The problems that my business face are lack of more advanced facilties, high prices of crude oil products that I use to operate my air compressors machine. My monthly costs include rent, water, fuel and transport costs. I would be glad if Zidisha would assist me in improving and expand my business since cash is a problem that has been limiting my future plans of expanding this business that I rely much on in order to earn my daily needs for myself and my family.

Loan Proposal

Dear lenders,I first wish to thank you for your continued support in my business and for the loan that I have been getting from the organization. The loan has been of great importance and it has seen me improve my business tremendously. I want to this loan that you will offer me to open another puncture repair within the shopping center as the demand for my services has been increasing every da. I am now using modern technology and machines to do my work and therefore also the quality of my services has improved.

    Hi to Zidisha lenders,
I called Christopher Karanja today and he responded positively, that he's not going to reschedule the loan repayment but instead pay his dues anytime today.
He is really commited to repaying the loan with the same installment agreed earlier.
I therefore look forward to his actions.

    Hi Lenders,
Hope all of you are doing well. Here we are fine. My family is doing well though we have been much affected by the drought in the country. Most parts of the country are dry as the April rainfall failed. We are positive that things will go back to normal.
Thanks and be blessed for the good work you are doing.

    Dear Lenders,

my name is Roberta Zenere and I am a Kenya Country Liaison Intern at Zidisha. Within this role, I am coordinating the Zidisha's MPESA team, responsible for processing loan repayments and disbursements.

Today, while reviewing our accounts, we noticed that a loan repayment of 4,200 KES (49.96 USD) sent by Mr Karanja on February, 13 was not registered in the repayment schedule of his previous loan. We have now credited that amount in his current repayment schedule, as you can see from the payment posted today under the date February, 13.

Mr Karanja, we are sorry for this inconvenience and we wish you all the best with your business! You are doing very well with your loan repayment!

    Best regards,

    Roberta

Hello, my name is Traci Yoshiyama, Zidisha’s Kenya Client Relationship Manager. I am currently residing in Mugaa, visiting Zidisha borrowers in nearby villages.

Although countless of businesses line the streets of Kiptangwanyi, among the most essential is Christopher Karanga’s repair shop. Having experienced the roads in this area by motorbike, car, public transportation, and foot, I can tell you that it is no easy feat getting from place to place. Never was it more important to have a repairman you can trust.

Christopher, or Junior as the locals know him, explained to me how he made his way up from working as a boda boda (motorbike) driver to owning his own shop. By taking training courses in Gil Gil and working at another repair shop in Kitangwanyi, Junior eventually owned his own business thanks to his first Zidisha loan. He was able to buy all the necessary machinery and supplies to get his feet on the ground and provide him and his family with a comfortable life. Through his second loan, Christopher was able to buy a welding machine, which you can see in the photo displayed below. The venture does not stop there, for he hopes in the future he will be able to also sell vehicle parts to his customers, such as tires.

Showing admirable work ethic, my visit was cut short due to Christopher’s large workload. I caught him in the middle of a repair, which I was able to photograph below. I did not leave before meeting his employee, Duncan, who described Christopher as a very good boss. As Duncan saw I was going to take pictures of Christopher working, he quickly ran inside the shop to put on his apron while Christopher shook his head and laughed.
