About Me

I live in Kiptangwanyi shopping centre which is about 41km from Nakuru town. I live in my own plot where my business is, plot number 36. I am married with two children. all of them are in school. my husband is not formally employed, and this resulted in so much financial constraints to sustain the family. It is to this end that I and my husband decided to start a business where we could rely on to earn our daily needs. we decided to start a bread depot and this we did in the year 2006. the business entails selling of bread and other wheat products. the business picked up very well and we became bread distributors in this zone. I supply loaves of bread to several shopping centres such as Mitimingi, munanda, kiambogo, Tangitano and Mugaa. Currently I am saving my earnings in order that I will be able to purchase a motorcycle that I will be using in distributing the loaves of bread.

My Business

My business entails the services of distributing loaves of bread in this zone. bread and wheat products is a very common product that is consumed within this region of Kiptangwanyi. this became a very important opportunity for me to supply the commodity. the main challenges that I face in this business is poor roads especially during the rainy season. high transport costs as a result of high costs of crude oil.

Loan Proposal

Dear Lenders,
I would like to use my second loan from Zidisha organization to expand my business and stock more products in my business.Currently, I have been selling bread alone and I now would like to introduce other products of wheat in my business. These includes buns, cakes, scones. These are very marketable and they will increase my profits in my business. I am also grateful that the first loan I got from Zidisha did help me in making a positive progress in my business.

    Dear Lenders,

Jackline let us know two months ago saying she would resume her payments in August. We are still waiting for her payment and meanwhile trying to contact her. We will update you once we know more.

    Dear Lenders,
I wish to reschedule my loan repayment by adding some more time. My business is not doing well at these months of January and February and thus I have felt the need to reinvest the profits back to the business in order to stabilize the business at the moment. i am optimistic that the business will catch on well soon and I will be able and back on track in my repayment.

Habari lenders. Its my sincere hope that all of you are fine. Its a hot afternoon that I have gotten an opportunity to write to you. Internet services are not available here and therefore we struggle so much to access this rare service. My business is doing well. I have just offloaded a lorry of bread and am now packing them ready for distribution to my customers in other neighboring centres. The loan I got from Zidisha assisted me so much in my business as I was able to expand the room that I was initially using. We are experiencing dry weather conditions here and there is a lot of dust and wind. I will not forget to commend the good job that Zidisha are doing. Keep it up and may God bless Zidisha and all Zidisha team.

    Hi Lenders,

    My name is Achintya Rai

I went and met Jackline Muthoni Waithaka at her business premise on this Thursday (2nd Feb 2012). She has a small shop from where she sells packaged bread. She used the Zidisha loan to increase her stock (she offloaded around 860 packets of bread in front of me. When I asked her how long it’d take her to sell all these, she said “just one day”).

Jackline now wants to buy a motorbike so that she can supply to nearby areas. Right now she uses a bicycle to supply, but this limits her reach.

We reached Jackline’s place right before her supply truck arrived. It was impressive to see her offloading crates after crates of bread. Right now she is the only one supplying bread in the area so she has a comfy little monopoly going on. A bike would perhaps increase her sales manifolds.

Apart from selling bread, she also supplies water to people’s home. She collects the water from public bore-wells and supplies it to people’s home for a small fee.

Jackline has two little children, both in primary school.

My one regret after meeting Jackline was that in my pursuit for getting a picture of her working, I did not help her in offloading the crates. I should have. In fact I would have, had I not had the blessed camera in my hands.
