About Me

I am Hannah Mensah, a Ghanaian belonging to the Mensah family from the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. I stay at Nungua C,5 with my parents and four siblings. My siblings are Gloria, Timothy, Love and Wilhemina. I have always admired the hair styles of most ladies from childhood and I had a dream of having my own saloon as a part time work. I am a marketer by profesion but I also do other businesses like buying and selling of locally made bags, shoes, and jewelries. I got this passion from Junior High School, where we were thought how to make jewelries and bags with our hands. I am also a Beautician where I normally braid and style the hair and this is my hobby as well. After work I have some time to do some sales which I earn daily and weekly. I read and do lots of research at my leisure times studying about how to improve upon my business and customer base.

My Business

I love to see ladies satisfied and happy with their hair style every time they visit the saloon. I have been into the beauty sector for the past 3 years. I am a marketer by profession, and a beautician as well. I also sell locally made bags and shoes. I do these sales on a small sale. I normally go to offices, schools and homes to sell these products. At Junior High School, I discovered this talent of braiding. I began braiding for my friends at church, in the neighbourhood and also for my mum and elderly sister. Whenever I am able to braid a particular hairstyle I get very excited. After Senior High School my parents took me through some education so that I can become a professional beautician and because it was a strong passion, within 6 months of learning I had become conversant with almost all the skills and technicalities. I worked in the saloon for 2 years to gain more experience. I now do braids and washing of the hair as a part time job. I want to now establish myself and get some more equipment for my saloon because of the demand from my customers. My customer base is increasing as the days go by a I know by the help of Zidisha I will be able to satisfy my customers whenever they visit my saloon. My customers always talk about my braids and what keeps them coming is that after braiding they don,t feel pains on their scalp. I need to buy more different brands of shampoos for my saloon. Some ladies have very soft hair, some also have very dry hair. I need different brands of shampoos to take care of the different hair textures of my customers. This will help me keep my customers and also make them happy because they hair will be well treated anytime they visit my saloon. What keeps ladies stuck to a particular saloon aside the sweet personality of the beautician, is her ability to treat their hair well and this results from the availability of the right brands of hair styling kits in the saloon. I use some of the profits to support my parents in paying bills like water and light bills at home.

The coming occassion which is the Easter celebrations has positively affected my saloon. My customer base has increased by 80% and the work has become great. Most of the ladies are getting their hair washed and braided to celebrate the coming occassion. I have employed the services of a friend to help me in the saloon especially on weekends. We sometimes close as late as 11:30pm on weekends. I need about $150 more to buy different brands of shampoos for my saloon. This will make my customers happy and will keep them coming because I have the right shampoo for any texture of hair. My joy is to always treat the hair of my customers with the right kits. When Zidisha grants me this loan it will greatly enhance my business and expand my customer base as well.
