I am a graphic designer and livestock farmer. Born in Nairobi Kenya and raised in Machakos town. I am the first born of three children to a single mother. I have a Diploma in Business Administration from Technical University of Mombasa. After my college studies in Mombasa, I moved to Machakos and did volunteer work in NGOs. Driven by passion I went into business 2 years later (2011) to start a graphic design agency called Jomac Media. In 2014 having lost my grandparents and my father I moved to my local village in Masii to manage my grandfathers estate. My desire to utilize land and create employment saw me start goat farming. I acquired a few local breed of sheep/ goats and opened a butchery in a Peri-urban settlement area in Machakos called Mjini in my hope that I can sell affordable meat to improve nutritional security. Adequate consumption of animal source foods amongst the poor communities here still lags behind because of cost challenge. To date I have identified best breed of sheeps and goats that I can breed in my farm to improve animal source products in the market. I have already started securing feed and making housing units for at least 200 sheeps. I want to acquire 50 ewes by January 2016. An ewe cost Kes. 5600 and hope to raise atleast KES. 560000 from loan and grands
I have two businesses, Jomac Media which I have operated for four years and Earthorganic Industries which is a year old. I earn my income from Jomac Media by developing marketing and communication mediums for SMEs, IEC materials for NGOs and advertising consult for start ups.
It is from this that I support myself, and the new business (Earthorganic Industries) whose primary business is forage, tree seedlings and livestock husbandry.
I expanded my farm with a poultry unit of 300 indigenous chicken chicks at the end of September, 2017. They are now in the 5th month, grown and overcrowded in a small broader house. In the 6th month they will start laying.
I want to develop a larger coup 39ft by 14ft with 3 sections which has a material and labour cost of kes. 100,000. I have kes. 45,000 in savings, and requiring at least kes. 60,000 to boost this project.
