About Me

Greetings,
My name is Purity Gacheru, a Kenyan from rural Nyeri County but I work and live near Kenya's Capital - Nairobi. A few years ago I worked in a Bank within the city but unbelievably for me - one morning we found that the Bank had been closed (collapsed)...and down went my job and my savings which I was saving in the same bank for over 9 years. It has been years but I could not just 'wait to see' if I will get my money out sooner. It has still not happened, but I did not go down with it...

My Business

..I have since dusted off and managed to set up my own small business. I buy and sell 2-way communications gadgets, (mostly Walkie Talkies bought from major sellers). Over a short period I have found out that Walkie Talkies are very useful and handy for institutions such as schools, godowns, supermarkets, etc; event organizers and sports events. Most people appreciate the quick way to communicate and also no airtime top ups and no network problems - Just press and talk.

My desire is to be able to stock up and have a good base for supplies so as not to lose a customer and also avoid giving them days or weeks of lead time for delivery. As the market trends move, I definitely will embrace the new technologies in the market to keep pace with the ever changing telecommunication industry.

I AM REALLY GRATEFUL TO HAVE FOUND ZIDISHA.
Thank you ALL.

Loan Proposal

I propose to finalise payment for the Laptop applied for in my last loan. I have $65 balance to clear for this. For the rest I will put it to buying accessories for Walkie Talkies for re-selling.
I look forward to receiving your help yet again and I do record my appreciation to all Lenders out there. You are making many business survive and we have something to look forward to.
Many thanks again.

I've been receiving invitation to adjust repayment amount, but the tab does not show any lesser amount than what I have already chosen 860/-. I'd appreciate your assistance please to allow me adjust the amount lower.
    Thank you

I have experienced slow sales and delay in payments due, hence this request to reduce the instalment amount. I'm hopeful the situation will change soon for the better.
Hoping for your favorable consideration for the same.

Dear Lenders, the tech error is finally cleared and I have received the disbursement.
I will use the funds to boost purchase of accessories for talkies to resell.
Once again I thank you all and will endeavor to repay on schedule.

    Dear Lenders,
Many thanks to all for funding my loan. I am NOT hesitant, but I am experiencing 'server error' and when I managed a log in, the "pending borrower confirmation" tab is non responsive.
I've posted my experience on the borrowers' discussion and it seems there are others with the same issue.
I await for the management to check it out.
    Thanks again and best regards.

    Hello Purity,
saw your 'like' for one of my comments on the forum - hadn't heard from you in a long time. How are you doing? You still in walkie-talkie business? The current loan shows as 'expired'? Hope you are not having technical difficulties.

Greetings Joshi, trust you are well and keeping safe. Many thanks for checking on me. I am very much here but I purposed not to borrow for now. My walkie talkie biz is still standing and I thank God. It is not easy time at all coz many many markets here are still depressed due to COVID-19. Small activities are back and I'm also trying to hustle here and there, not just talkies.

Thanks for that Laurie, let's hope it can be changed or at least the info be prominently displayed as you say so each borrower can view. It is possible many people do not visit the FAQ

      Keep well.

    Greetings,
Kindly allow me to use this platform to record my appreciation. A while ago one of my lenders posted here he was ready to help me with some small bench tools to use in my repairs workshop. (I buy and re-sell walkie talkies and if repairs are necessary, I do have a regular technical guy who takes care of this area)

Don macDonald has indeed come to my aid and sent a box of tools all the way from Canada to Nairobi Kenya- I acknowledge having received these very handy tools, all intact and now in use. Having 'met' him on this Zidisha platform, I do feel it's appropriate for me to record this here - And being able to do the work better because of this kind of generosity is one thing I do not take lightly and I am really grateful...I could keep repeating this because it is so very true...
But Thank you again and again Don, thank you all my Lenders, thank you Zidisha pioneers. May we continue to uphold one another in this 'small' globe.
Keep well and may God watch over you all!
    Purity

Purity - I appreciate your message so much. But really - you are the one making things happen. I am so pleased to be able to help a responsible entrepreneur like your self take risks & manage a small business in your community.

I very much hope your business positively effects your new & future customers.. your suppliers.. your employees and even the person down the road where you buy your groceries or take a tea break. This is the enormous power of micro loaning.

Hi Laurie, Many thanks for the correction. I will edit that. It was a complete oversight on the word 'After' and I wrote the date of Director's post instead. Well noted, Keep well and continue to keep an open eye, I would not like to confuse borrowers.
      Thanks again.

Prior to your reply of my complain of 21/04/2019; it hurts so much to hear that the Credit risk is not refundable for every new loan; for example the one i received on the same day was Kshs. 165,000; after all the deductions:
    (i) Credit risk Kshs 49,000;
    (ii) Interest fee Kshs. 8,900
    (iii) Expedite Fee Kshs. 8,900

The money sent to me was Kshs. 99,000, now I ask why the Credit risk is not refundable and am supposed to repay the whole amount of Kshs. 165,000; tell me.
Okay go back to my loan repayment and disbursement; you will find that I paid that credit risk as deposit some years back incase i defaulted, but up to today I have no any loan arrears. What will happen to that amount i paid? I will want that money to be refunded for I had paid it before 16/12/2018 and no alert was given to me so that i could decide what to do next.

The above was about the Credit Risk amount. this now is to want to know why i was not offered the amount I was expecting of Kshs. 216,000 plus invitees bonus of Kshs. 6,000; why the pattern of qualifying a higher was changed all over sudden? Before we used to receive half of the previous loan as loan increment if one attained over 90% repayment rate. Mine was 95% , how come my current loan only increased by Kshs. 21,000?

I think justice did not prevail I hope also that you reconsider my complain so that my right of qualifying for Kshs. 216,000 be seen for the rate I reached was higher than the minimum needed.

Kindly waiting to hear from you.

The income from sales has been dismal especially last 2 months. The previous loan and part of my current loan was to purchase a laptop for work and not stock for re-selling which contributed to rather low monies coming in, hence this request to reduce the installment.

    Dear Lenders,
I wish to record my appreciation to you all for funding my loan. I will be able to clear payment for a laptop I sought for in previous loan and I will add some small accessories for my walkie talkie gadgets.

Purity... can you think about how I may send a package of small tech tools to you from Canada? I have been to Africa before and am concerned that you may not receive them or will have to pay high fees to receive the package.
Can you tell me what type of tools you could use at your shop? can you tell me what models of radios & accessories you have/ need? If this is easier via email please let me know..

    Purity,
in the information about your business, you have mentioned "....schools, godowns, supermarkets, etc; event organizers and sports events." being the clients. Of these, first three would generally have regular use for the walkie-talkie equipment and probably will purchase it.

The last two - event organizers and sports events - probably need it only on ad-hoc basis and may not want to purchase walkie-talkies. For such clients, have you thought about 'renting out' equipment? Rather than spend $$$ to purchase the equipment, they might prefer to spend $ to rent it from you only when needed.

      Hi Joshi,
Good to hear from you again. Trust all is well. Yes the organisations do buy talkies, but it's not something they will keep buying now and then; so trying to reach out to as many users is the way to go. When it comes to renting it can get tricky in case of loss or damage - I do try to rent out where client should ensure some form of insurance but this seems not very appealing. Anyway its a competitive market and I will up my game. I do have a License from the Communications Authority of Kenya as a Vendor.
      Thanks again, do keep well.
