About Me

My name is Eunice Makumba and I am 29 years old. I am married with three children. My oldest daughter is eight years old, my son is turning four in September and Christine, the little one, is only three weeks old.

I am a trained teacher but I have never been employed as a teacher because of the way things are in Kenya. It takes a long time before the government can employ teachers. My husband is a student, so the business is very much the main income earner for the family. I love singing, writing and spending time with the kids.

My Business

I intend to repay the loan using the earnings from my food business. My business is right next to a university and most of my customers are university students. Most students do not cook, so they eat all their meals in food places around college.

I have an advantage over most people that sell food around here because of the location of my business. My business is located in the midst of many privately-owned hostels that do not allow cooking in the rooms. I also relate well with the students, so they prefer to come to my place. My business makes a profit of about 450 dollars in a month, which is very good according to the standard around here.

My main challenge at this time is that I do not have a freezer. Because of this, a lot of food goes bad once in a while. This is the main reason why I need a loan at this time. I will buy a freezer that costs about 300 dollars. With the freezer, I will be able to save a lot of food from going bad. I will also be able to cook a lot of food without any fear that I might not sell it all. Sometimes I cook less food than I need and end up disappointing some of my customers. With the freezer, I am sure that my sales and profits will increase steadily.

The last loan i received was very helpful. Because it was not enough for me to get the freezer that i wanted, I added Ksh 5000 to it and got myself a microwave. With the microwave, I have been able to save a lot on fuel cost. Before the microwave, i always had to leave some charcoal burning to keep the food warm all through the day. That way i ended up spending a lot on charcoal. Now i a able to quickly warm the food when it has been ordered.

I have had to reschedule payment because the building in which my business is located is undergoing renovation. My business has been closed for sometime now. I am currently looking for a new temporary location because it looks like the renovation will take some time. Before the renovation, the university was closed. In this are when university is closed there is no business because the students are the main customers .As soon as everything goes back to normal, I will be able to not only make my weekly payments as scheduled but will be able to pay more so that I can pay off the loan quickly.

My child was sick, so i spent all my savings for her medical bills. Also at this time, the university is closed. students will be gone for about three weeks before they resume again. My main customers are the students. as long as they are gone, there is no much business therefore i am not able to work as much at this time. This is the reason i am not able to pay promptly at this time.
