My name is Eunice Makumba and I am 29 years old. I am married with three children. My oldest daughter is eight years old, my son is turning four in September and Christine, the little one, is only three weeks old.
I am a trained teacher but I have never been employed as a teacher because of the way things are in Kenya. It takes a long time before the government can employ teachers. My husband is a student, so the business is very much the main income earner for the family. I love singing, writing and spending time with the kids.
I intend to repay the loan using the earnings from my food business. My business is right next to a university and most of my customers are university students. Most students do not cook, so they eat all their meals in food places around college.
I have an advantage over most people that sell food around here because of the location of my business. My business is located in the midst of many privately-owned hostels that do not allow cooking in the rooms. I also relate well with the students, so they prefer to come to my place. My business makes a profit of about 450 dollars in a month, which is very good according to the standard around here.
My main challenge at this time is that I do not have a freezer. Because of this, a lot of food goes bad once in a while. This is the main reason why I need a loan at this time. I will buy a freezer that costs about 300 dollars. With the freezer, I will be able to save a lot of food from going bad. I will also be able to cook a lot of food without any fear that I might not sell it all. Sometimes I cook less food than I need and end up disappointing some of my customers. With the freezer, I am sure that my sales and profits will increase steadily.
