About Me

Am Lilian Nzingo Thuva born in 1986, in family of six children and am the first born in my family. Am a resident and a businesslady in mtwapa as well. I went Mtwapa primary school in 1991 and completed my primary school in 1998. I later went to Ngala girls secondary school in 1999 and finshed my secondary school in 2003. After my secondary school, i came back home after failing to get enough funds to join the university. So i decided to venture into business world, my first business was a local restaurant, i practiced this business at home, this business and it started well only at that time i did not have enough capital so it was just a small business.Since i did it at home, i could save as much because i did not have to pay rent. With the savings i managed to open a boutique. This has been a good alternative for my financial status. this is a good business because i get a monthly income of ksh 25,000 per month. With this amount i buy food for my family and also the other family needs.

My Business

I have a boutique in the heart of the town. I started this business four years ago and am glad its been doing well.Mtwapa is a very fast growing town in the coastal strip of Kenya. We have a combination of different communities of different ethic groups. With the high population in this town business has been doing good Many of my customers are all ladies which are very much concerned about beauty. As my business is concerned, i have ready customers as the demand of cosmetic products and beauty is high.I get my products form the wholesales in town, and dealers of beauty and cosmetics . This is a good business as i make a monthly income of ksh 25,000 per month. Risks in my business include flactuation in prices of materials hence reducing profits. With what i get in my income i use ksh 2,000 paying my house rent, kah 4,000 paying rent at the boutique, ksh 5,000 is used for family food, so i save ksh 14,000 per month which i can easily repay my zidisha loan. My main objective is to expand my business and gain more profit so as to free my self and my family from poverty

Loan Proposal

Hello, am so grateful that my application has gone though. My thanks to all who made this application a success. With this loan i want to improve my business. I want to add more products like new clothes and cosmetics. This will add more value to my business. and this will mean more income to my business. And this will make it easier for me to repay my loan.

    Dear lenders,
After we heard about Lilian's new business location in April, we had about two months of silence. Despite multiple attempts to reach her, we were unable to make contact with Lilian until June. Back then, she expressed interest in rescheduling her loan, as she did not seem to foresee a date in the future when she would resume her loan payments. Our staff provided instructions on how to reschedule several times during follow ups with her, but in the end, a loan reschedule never happened.
You have received an email notification with more information on the reasons behind this loan write-off. Should you have additional questions or concerns please contact us at [email protected].

    Our best regards,

    Analin Saturria McGregor

    Dear Lilian,
Five months ago Analin Saturria wrote to lenders saying that you had moved your boutique business. Maybe there has been time for word of mouth to announce your new location to clientele, and for your business to become reestablished.
Your lenders would like to hear from you at some point, so we can know that you intend to repay the funds with which you were entrusted on faith alone.
    Thank you.
    Marvin

    Dear lenders,
This is Analin Saturria McGregor, Communications Associate at Zidisha.
Our Volunteer Mentor in Mwatapa, Andrew Kambi, sat down for a chat with Lilian to check how her business is going. Andrew helped Lilian with her loan application so he's familiar with her activities from the very beginning.
Lilian changed her business to a new location and this has affected sales. In developing countries, where marketing and advertising are not as advanced or reliable to build upon clientele, small business owners' best asset is word of mouth, which takes time to travel. If you have suggestions about how can Lilian make sure her most faithful clients know of her new location, or have any ideas for her to advertise, we'd love to hear them! Just write a comment and we'll ensure Lilian receives your suggestions in the event she can't log in to her account.

      Hi Analin,
Here is an idea I have once used in that situation.
Find some kids (or adults) that roam around the place where your old shop used be, or who live in the area where most of your old customers live.
Promise them some candy if they help old customers to find the way to your new shop. More candy if they show up with 5 old customers.
It's an inexpensive and fun way to get movement in the new shop.

In Japan, store owners hang a sign on their old place with a map to the new place, its phone number and maybe a picture of the new store.

Have a special half price opening sale for exclusive products all the way from paris(or nairobi or london or wherever it is from} ,if customers not happy with their item they could be offered a full no quibble refund. You could say if the product fails to make them more beautifull they can have a refund. If the stuff makes them more ugly they can have a refund.I bet not many women would ask for a refund. If it works you could permanently run this offer.
