About Me

I am the last born in the family of four, aging twenty years old. I was born in Eastern parts of Kenya in one of the driest parts of the country. At the age of five years I joined nursery school in one of the local schools in our community in the year 1997. I went forward and completed my primary level in the year 2005 and obtained a mean grade of B+. Because of financial problem we had in our family, I joined a community secondary school and studied for four years. I completed my secondary level in the year 2009 obtaining a mean grade of B of which I didn’t qualify to join a public university. In the year 2010, I started teaching at my former secondary school teaching business studies, mathematics and geography at the midst of the year I enrolled myself in part time studies. In the year 2011 I opened a business of printing from the savings of my teaching’s salary. It is from then when I ventured in business and joined Faulu. I went forward with my business and saw that it has good returns.
I now operate a small printing firm in Coastal areas of Kenya situated at Watamu, Kenya. Although it is a small firm and hoping to be one of the greatest printing firm in the country. My business has huge returns because I buy t-shirts at Kshs. 150 and print it at Kshs. 50 totaling Kshs. 200 and then sell it at Kshs.500 when printed thereby making a profit of Kshs. 300 per T-shirt. I am hoping that from Zidisha my business will grow because I am planning to add printing machines through finances of Zidisha. And eradicate poverty in my family and community at large. Thank you Zidisha for bringing right to us.

My Business

My business started in the year 2011 after I had committed my sales and marketing course. After finishing this course I saw that was the right time to benefit from it.
I saw many schools in Coastal Province suffering from where they could get printing services. I did my analysis and saw that they were to travel from Coast to Nairobi to do printing of which they could at least spend two days of travelling. I saw that gap and I took a step forward to bridge that gap. I started by printing diaries, report forms and school books with their logos. I now print both stationeries and also school T-shirts, badges and also I print T-shirts for groups like microfinance groups. I also do all printings and typesetting and school exams.
Many schools come to me because I have built trust in them such that I deliver goods at the exact agreed time and date of delivery.
They also prefer my goods of the best quality and at reasonable prices. My business is much profitable because I buy one T-shirt at Kshs. 150 and print it at Kshs. 50 totaling Kshs. 200 and then sell it at Kshs.500 thereby making a profit of Kshs. 300 per T-shirt.
Sometimes my business face some challenges because I have to pay people for me because I don’t have printing machines so I have to buy T-shirts and take it to printing. Another challenge is that I operate my business in Coastal regions where it goes by seasons. Sometimes when the season is low such that tourists are not coming, I don’t get market. I have been finding a solution to this and I am planning through Zidisha Microfinance to open another firm that will deal with natural honey of which I have calculated and found that it sells a lot. For example a twenty litre of Natural Honey I can buy it at Kshs.4000 and when I pack it into small bottles of 120ml I can sell the same twenty litres at Kshs. 10,000 thereby gaining a profit of Kshs. 6000.
At the end of the month I pay rent of Kshs.6000 I also pay school fees for my niece of Kshs. 3000 per month and Kshs. 6000 for food and other domestic needs per month. The total cost totals at Kshs. 15,000 when I subtract from my income from the business of Kshs. 30,000 per month, I remain with Kshs. 15,000 as saving of which now I will be using the amount by paying Zidisha loan and also I finance my other projects I have plans for when Zidisha Microfinance finances me.

Loan Proposal

I FIDELIS i take this oopportunity to thank zidisha for actvating my profile, from the lending support from zidisha i am planning to boost my business by buying the machines for printing becouse that is the challange that i encounter most of the times,i need a big machine that can print t-shirts and even books,i will also add stock to the business to ensure there will be smooth supply to the customers, through zidisha am also planning to boost other projects i have like rearing of fish and beekeeping which i have seen will be working well, through zidisha am also planing to pasue my degree from the profit i will be making,i will also create job opportunity to youths becouse my business is suitable to deal with youths,it will also help me in supporting my niece who is in primary school, thanks zidisha for the support and the light that has refflected to us.thanks

Dear lenders and the management, I would like to update you that I have managed to talk to her Sister NANCY KIILU on phone a couple of minutes ago and the sister told me the his brother told him that he cleared with his Zidisha loan arrears, but have discussed with Nancy into detail that his brother Fedelis he never attempted to make any repayment which he was expected to complete on February 2014 if he was repaying. Nancy has just assured me that she will try to trace his brother as he keeps on changing phone numbers and once she is touch she will discuss the matter and see if Fedelis can resume repayments.
Thank you all for your patience

Dear Zidisha Team, I am unable to reach Fedelis Kiilu on his phone number, but was luck to talk to her Sister NANCY KIILU 0715800651, who told me that she is not even aware that Fedelis was given a loan and even he used her contact to Zidisha, she told me that she was far but she will try to reach him, Also I contacted his comminity Leader Mr. Richard 07163683300 who was shocked that Fedelis has not repaid the loan but he assured me that he will follow him up and know why he is not repaying loans. Finally I also contacted the one who Referred Fedelis to Zidisha by: James Yaah, 0726236717 he also said he follow him up and he will get me the phone number where I can reach Fedelis. I will update you on the progress.

Zidisha community, my effort of reaching Fedelis finally has become succeful and we had communication yesterday mid night and he told me that her business went down and also his phone number was shut down by CCK and his means of reactivating has gone unsuccessful and he was requesting me if he can activate a new line with a new number to linkup up with it on Zidisha whereby he wants to start repaying his loans as soon as he request is made and also this can allow him to have new m-pesa Line. Fedelis is current using Orange line 254 (0) 773584014. Kindly let me know if this is possible, he has confirmed to me that he is getting new line end of this week and he is expecting to start repaying loans as from 15th March 2014.

      Dear Fidelis,

first of all, Zidisha adopts an automated system to send email/SMS reminding borrowers to send their repayments. These emails and SMS are sent automatically once the repayment rate is not met and there is a delay is sending the loan installment by the borrower. I have noted in our records that you intend to make your payment on December, but unfortunately this can't prevent our system to send automatic SMS/emails to you and your contacts.

Regarding your second question: no, it is not possible to send message from a different number than the one that is registered in your loan profile, unless it will be difficult to retrieve your payment and post it in your loan profile accordingly.

If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to contact us.

      Thanks and best regards,

      Roberta
