Hi Francis: I was happy to contribute to your last loan, and I am glad to help again with this 3rd one. Please try to make your repayments on time, because as Bayle and evinpa have explained, that way you will qualify for a larger loan next time. Your regular updates are greatly appreciated. Good luck.

    Dear Francis Mwangi,

As a lender to your loan, I have enjoyed lending to you and hope you will still participate with Zidisha.

I know Zidisha has made many changes to its loan limit progression rules over the past year. My impression is that it has been due to problems they have had with some people borrowing a large amount of money and not repaying anything. So they’ve made the new limits lower and the rules stricter as to what you need to do to progress to higher amounts.
Unfortunately this sometimes has resulted in a surprise and shock to a dedicated longtime borrower such as yourself.

I have emailed [email protected] on your behalf with your comment. They can look at your account, double check that the new limit is correct and explain what happened. They are all volunteers monitoring the emails so sometimes it can take a while for them to respond.

I wish you luck and hope that you will not be discouraged. You are doing good things in this world with your family, your business and your trees.

        Hello Francis Mwangi,

You're welcome. I still have not heard anything back from my email to [email protected], but sometimes it can take several days since they are all volunteers.
I know that one of the things they keep track of now is when the monthly payments are made. Now you must have the 95 % on-time rating to climb to a higher credit limit.
I know it has affected many borrowers who have to start building up the limit again with the new structure. Just make sure you understand the new requirements so you can make sure you follow them to get to your higher credit limit again.

        I hope this helps,
        Evinpa

    Dear Zidisha,

I have been paying my loan on time, and I was late by one month, my loan last repayment was in 25 December 2013. I just wonder how my loan limit was refused by a very big margin and I paid all my loan on Jan 2014

      Dear Francis,

Thank you for the comment and I apologize that it has taken us a few days to respond to you. The reason your credit limit has not progressed is because you have an on-time repayment rate of less than 95%. The way this is determined is by counting a) the number of installments you've paid and b) the number of installments you have paid on time. However, installments are considered only until the date that the loan is fully repaid. So, for example, although you paid your first loan on time and early on July 17th 2012, the number of installments that are counted in determining repayment rate are only March 2012- July 2012, and not March 2012- January 2013. The rest of your repayment rate was affected by a few late payments.

As Evinpa mentioned, we have determined repayment rates this way in order to deter potentially fraudulent borrowers from taking a loan, paying in back quickly, then taking a loan of a higher amount and not paying the funds back. However, for borrowers such as yourself who repay early, this hurts your repayment rate because you are not credited with as many installments as someone who took out the same loan from March 2012-January 2013 and paid once a month, on time, each month. As we are continually adjusting our model, I would appreciate hearing your thoughts on how to potentially change this in the future.

Thanks and please let me know if I was not clear on anything!
      Best,
      Bayle, Zidisha Team
