About Me

I am a 22 year old Avocado Farmer. I am the only son in a family of three children. I live in Thika, at Ofafa estate just opposite Presbyterian Church of East Africa in Thika town.
I am a farmer and currently involved in farming avocados and cashew nuts.
I started my business in the year 2011 to enable me to cater for my family's expenses and also to be in a position to cater for my small sister's education. Through this business, I have managed to pay for her this year's school fees as she is now in Form three and due to complete her secondary education next year. Also, I had the compelling passion to make use of available resources being an environmentalist by career, hence I saw the need to put to use to the available God-given resources in the best way possible.

My Business

In Kenya, avocados are many people's favorite fruit especially in Central Kenya. I supply them to various institutions around Thika for instance primary and secondary schools like Gatumaini Primary School and Heights Academy.
At home, I also provide the fruits within the neighborhood.Avocados are very tasty with meals and very healthy too. With the care I carry out during planting and harvesting, I make sure that quality fruits get to my customers making me have an upper hand from my competitors in the business.
The major set back in the business is insects. One has to invest a lot to purchase the pesticides.
Despite the fruit being seasonal, I have managed to come up with an alternative through inter-cropping to ensure that all round the year I manage to ensure a steady income.

Loan Proposal

I will use the loan to purchase more farm inputs for my avocado farming. I will purchase booster fertilizers that will boost the growth of the avocados hence a higher and better quality yield. This will cost Ksh. 4,000.
I will also advertise my market, attend field workshops to learn more about avocados, how to grow them to get maximum yield. I will also participate in ensuring that I offer more services rendered to the society, visit the elderly and offer help to orphans to give back to Zidisha community at large what it will have invested in me.
