About Me

I am a 22 year old Avocado Farmer. I am the only son in a family of three children. I live in Thika, at Ofafa estate just opposite Presbyterian Church of East Africa in Thika town.
I am a farmer and currently involved in farming avocados and cashew nuts.
I started my business in the year 2011 to enable me to cater for my family's expenses and also to be in a position to cater for my small sister's education. Through this business, I have managed to pay for her this year's school fees as she is now in Form three and due to complete her secondary education next year. Also, I had the compelling passion to make use of available resources being an environmentalist by career, hence I saw the need to put to use to the available God-given resources in the best way possible.

My Business

In Kenya, avocados are many people's favorite fruit especially in Central Kenya. I supply them to various institutions around Thika for instance primary and secondary schools like Gatumaini Primary School and Heights Academy.
At home, I also provide the fruits within the neighborhood.Avocados are very tasty with meals and very healthy too. With the care I carry out during planting and harvesting, I make sure that quality fruits get to my customers making me have an upper hand from my competitors in the business.
The major set back in the business is insects. One has to invest a lot to purchase the pesticides.
Despite the fruit being seasonal, I have managed to come up with an alternative through inter-cropping to ensure that all round the year I manage to ensure a steady income.

Loan Proposal

I will use the loan to purchase more farm inputs for my avocado farming. I will purchase booster fertilizers that will boost the growth of the avocados hence a higher and better quality yield. This will cost Ksh. 4,000.
I will also advertise my market, attend field workshops to learn more about avocados, how to grow them to get maximum yield. I will also participate in ensuring that I offer more services rendered to the society, visit the elderly and offer help to orphans to give back to Zidisha community at large what it will have invested in me.

    Dear Lenders,
I have just visited Mr. Edwin and asked him about his loan repayment. He has told me that by December 22 he will have repaid his loan. I will check on him again by 20th to remind him of the same.

    Hi Lenders,
I talked with my former VM before Zidisha allocated me to Mr. John as my new VM.
I had told Mr. Kamande that since I exhausted my rescheduling options, I would begin to repay end November. The rains affected. my business but am hsppy to report all is well now.
    Please forgive me for delay.

      Dear Edwin,

Thank you for the message and keeping lenders informed! I believe we have recently changed our rescheduling policy so that borrowers can reschedule more than two times in a loan period. Can you try again and see if you are able to?

      Thank you!
      Bayle, Zidisha Team

I have just supplied my avocadoes to A new firm in Thika. I am happy to announce that I now have a one year contract to supply avocadoes to Heights Academy School.
This means I will have a monthly income based on tje avocadoes I sell to them and beginning October this year, I will receive my first payment.
apart from that, I also have secured a job apart from fstming, hence it will be easier for me even to repay fast.

    Hi Zidisha.
I have been faced by a set back in my business.
I supplied the avocados to a certain firm in Thika and I have been told that I will be paid with bankers cheque. I expected the cash late last month but up to date still they havent paid me. I am from their office and I have gotten the report that indeed I will be paid with a cheque which will be issued to me any time from tomorrow.
I highly apologise and immediately I get the cash, I will repay the amount in full.
