About Me

My name is Caleb ochieng im 38years of age ,i stay with my family of 4 in Nairobi in a plot i bought way back in 2004,after college i was employed at securicor security services.i left in 2001 after working for nine years and joined outsource technique limited on contract basis.i then ventured into small business of a cyber cafe when the contracts from ousource went down. The business is doing well but i intend to add more computers and start a computer college.

My Business

Currently i operate a cyber business under the name Half London cyber.the returns are approximately 1500/= per day.i intend to add 6(six) computers and start a computer college if granted the loan. The computer college will be called RAPID COMPUTER TRAINING COLLEGE i m in the process of registering it as a limited company. From my experience at the cyber it is quiet evident that most people in this area lack the basic computer skills most were willing to start the training immediately and so far i have enrolled 4(four) students and engaged one teacher on permanent basis.i intend to offer 8 packages at 4700/= this rate will be quiet affordable and help me beat the competition around.

Loan Proposal

If granted the loan i intend to buy one quality laser type document printer at a total cost of 25,000/= because the inkjet printer i am currently using is slow and the copies are not very clear.I also intend to add one more computer unit at a cost of 15,000/=for my computer classes
The remaining 1870/= will go to stationary and other teaching materials Once again i thank the zidisha team for considering my application i hope to be a lender in the near future.
Keep up the good stuff you guys rocks.

    Hello Mr Ochieng,
I'm wishing you well in your business quest to promote computer literacy. Computer-based information access is the great equalizer of our age. It is my hope that cheap stick or card micro computers (such as the Raspberry Pi), running open source operating systems, will open the cyber-door for millions of people. Your type of basic computer instruction fits in nicely.
    My best to you.

    Dear Lenders,

my name is Roberta Zenere and I am a Kenya Country Liaison Intern at Zidisha. Within this role, I am coordinating the Zidisha's MPESA team, responsible for processing loan repayments and disbursements.

Today, while reviewing our accounts, I noticed that a loan repayment of 1,500 KES (17.47 USD) sent by Mr Ochieng on March, 19 was not registered in the repayment schedule of his previous loan. We have now credited that amount in his current repayment schedule, as you can see from the payment posted today under the date March, 19.

Mr Ochieng, we are sorry for this inconvenience and we wish you all the best with your business!

    Best regards,

    Roberta

    Hello caleb ochieng,

First I want to say hello and thank you for your hard work with your business and also for being a volunteer mentor.

I also am inquiring about LUCY MBUGUA. She last posted a message in January saying she had been in the hospital for more than a month.

I am concerned about her, as are other lenders. Would you please be so kind as to find out how she is doing and post an update on Lucy's borrower's page so the lenders will be notified of your post.

    Thank you,
    Evinpa

Greetings lenders! My name is Neil DiMuccio, and I am a Client Relationship Manager with Zidisha in Kenya. I am currently visiting borrowers to learn more about them and support them with their Zidisha loans. It is my hope that this work will build bridges to better connection and understanding, and that Zidisha and its borrowers will increasingly grow, communicate, and support each other.

I was recently very lucky to meet with Caleb Ochieng in Utawala / Githunguri, a small town some 25 kilometers East of Nairobi.

Caleb is a father and business owner of a cyber café named Half London, which is a very nice facility that he obviously takes pride in. When I visited him, his young children were there, using computers to watch new movies on Youtube. I was able to see firsthand Caleb’s investment in his new printers, because I just so happened to need to print some 20 pages for a document that I’ve been using to do New Borrower Orientations with Zidisha. The printers are of very nice quality, and he should be able to recoup his costs on this investment in just a few months.

Caleb has worked in many other areas of the economy, but decided to open a cyber café partially because he wanted his children to grow up being very computer savvy. He is an exceptionally kind and soft spoken man, and at the end of our meeting I decided to ask him if he would become a Community Organizer, which is a local volunteer with Zidisha. Community Organizers are vital to maintaining communications and spreading the word about Zidisha, and I was very happy when Caleb accepted.

One interesting anecdote was that while we were logged in to Caleb’s profile and checking his repayment schedule, he mentioned that one of the payments shown had not been made by him. I’d like to take this time to publicly applaud his honesty in this matter.

While I was visiting Caleb, some 5 other Zidisha borrowers and applicants from the community dropped in to say hello and ask me questions, thus proving that Caleb’s café was something of an ideal community meeting place for Zidisha.

Thank you so much for taking the time to meet, Caleb. Best wishes in all your future endeavors!
