About Me

I am a 23 year old male Kenyan Citizen.I live in Makongeni Phase six in Thika. I am the second born in the family of two children.
I am a clothes dealer at the Thika Stadium stalls. I started this business immediately after clearing my secondary education.
For many years Kenyans relied on the local textile industry for all their apparel needs. Most Kenyans however, could not afford these clothes.
As Kenyans become more fashionable and budget-conscious, consumers are flocking to second-hand clothes vendors in search of bargains and unique pieces they find stylish. Kenyans want to look good without breaking the bank.I being a youthful Kenyan and passion for fashion, I decided to make a mark in the business and make a living out of it.
Normally, I get my stock from Nairobi Gikomba market where its normally cheap and easy to get the clothes.

My Business

I deal with second hand clothes.
Second-hand clothes are commonly referred to as ‘Mitumba’ in Kenya are providing a cheaper alternative to locally produced or imported new clothes. This has made the second-hand clothes business one of the most lucrative informal businesses in the country.
My customers prefer me over my competitors since I get them the trendy designs they desire. I have made myself a reputable name in the clothes industry by being a leading dealer of quality second hand clothes. My friends, neighbours and entire youths especially in Thika form my customer base.
Fashion is dynamic. This is an advantage as well as a disadvantage to my business.I might bring a variety of clothes in stock and unfortunately some fail to please the customers and once its overtaken by time, it becomes dead stock leading to a loss.
In a month, I get to make a profit of between Ksh. 8,000 to 12,000. I have managed to save some money and just recently enrolled in Thika Technical Training College to pursue a diploma in Sales and Marketing. This will help me in a broader aspect understand the business and be able to handle my customers in a more professional way.

Loan Proposal

In my mitumba business (second hand clothes), I want to add more stock to cater for everything from clothes to shoes. I want to purchase shoes to add to my stock of clothes. This will attract more customers and will ensure that here in Thika people don't need to go all the way to Nairobi to purchase good pairs of shoes.
I plan to target low income earners and ensure that apart from clothes, people have shoes so as to kick out jiggers totally and completely. Its not just about making money but also making the world a better place to live in and am grateful that Zidisha provides me with that platform

So what happened? No reason not to repay, when others are struggling and still manage to check back or pay something.

    Dear Lenders,
I talked with Simon over the weekend about repaying his loan. He promised to resume paying and even committed himself that a month shouldn't end without him having paid some cash. I will keep close contact especially this week, hoping he will send in some cash.

    Regards,
    Paul Gitau,
    VM

    Dear Lenders,
I have sent out my full repayment today. I am really humbled by your kindness and patience with me during my hardest time after my business was affected by the fire that broke out.
I am now back in business and with a very good come back. I have actually moved to a concrete stall where I am set to strive more to ensure that I open another stall, create employment and play part in creating employment.
Thank you very much and God Bless you all

    Dear Lenders,
Good News. Simon is back in business and actually has even got a concrete stall.
He has just informed me that he has fully repaid his loan minutes ago!
He has taught me that even in the most difficult times, one needs to stay strong in faith that trully all will be well.
He set up his business up again and has made impact really that even he is now able to raise funds to repay his loan.
Indeed, he represents what Zidisha really means, Growth.

    Dear Lenders,
Today I met with Simon in Thika at his clothes shop. I am really impressed by the growth in his business even after the fire accident. He is now bigger and better and infact he plans to expand his business and open up another shop.
He is set to commence repaying his loan this week.
I reminded him to keep on communicating with you on the progress of his business.
I am happy you were part and parcel of Simon's big break.

    Regards,
    Paul Kamande,

I suffered a great loss after when my stand and stock got burnt in a fierce fire that broke out the beginning of this month in Thika's Marikiti area. My entire stand was destroyed and now I have been dumbstruck by the events that unfolded. However, with my savings I had got in the previous months, I am now trying to be back in business and hopefully regain my loan repayment. Please accept my sincere apologies dear lenders
