I am a mechanical engineer specialising in water and energy solutions in my formal employment. I founded Student Laundry Services Ltd, a company specialising in offering automated laundry services. we intend to open outlets at major colleges and universities across the country
Offering convenient automated wash and dry laundry services to the student population saving them time to invest in studies and other constructive activities.
We make and sell soft satin day and night hair caps in a variety of colors and sizes. We have a line that is reversible/wearable on both sides such that one can achieve different looks just with one cap.
We have received a lot of positive response from the market such that in just under two weeks of commencing, we have been sold out at a beauty store that took on to stock our merchandise.
We currently sell (in store and online) as outlined below:
1. Beauty wholesale K Ltd. Ground Floor, Jubilee House, Opposite Transnational House, Near City Hall, Mama Ngina St, Nairobi
2. Online on Jumia: https://www.jumia.co.ke/spirals-hair-collection/
3. Shopify online store: https://spiralshair.com
4. Through Facebook and Instagram page where we organize delivery through G4S:
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/spiralshaircollection/
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/spiralshaircollection
5. We also distribute to local beauty stores and salons
In order to keep up with the increasing demand, we intend to buy fabric in bulk and increase production capacity by acquiring and equipping a production workshop with 5 work stations (3 industrial sewing machines, 2 industrial surgers and 1 pattern cutting station) as well as hire operating staff for the equipment.
The market potential is huge and we have only scratched the surface. Just to mention a few opportunities, we have counties other than Nairobi that we are yet to explore and stocking at supermarkets across the country.
Our biggest selling point is that we are a home made (made in Kenya) brand and our product can be used both as night wear and day style accessory. Another factor in our favor is that this is a hair care product and with the population currently embracing the African textured hair, which requires tender care, we foresee an increasing demand for hair care products like our product offering. The fabric we use is smooth and does not tag on hair, reduces tangling and frizz which is a major problem from Afro textured hair and the fabric does not dry out hair (does not soak up moisture from the hair) hence promoting healthy hair.
There is also the inexhaustible girls student population who are a huge market for elastic hair scrunchies (hair ribbons/bands) which we can make in the colors of their institutions. A key thing to note is that we can produce a considerable number of ribbons just from fabric waste hence increasing our profitability per batch considerably.
As casual and formal wear hair accessories, the ribbons have been a favourite to many and in most occasions, a client will buy a set of various colours at a time.
