About Me

I am a business man living in Nairobi City, at satellite; an estate which is about 40 KM from the Nairobi, the city. I have been a business for about 5 years; doing different kinds of businesses. Thank you Zidisha for giving me a chance to get funding. Since I moved to Satellite, I realized that water is a major challenge around the area. There is no water in most residential plots in the area. People in the area depend on water sold by vendors who use carts known as “mikokoteni” to sell water to them. The demand is so high that the water vendors exploit the residents by selling the water at a very high cost, ranging from 20 to sometimes 50 shillings per 20 litre jelican of water. This had happened to me very many times and I always wished there was something I could do about it. As one day I was having a conversation with my landlord requesting him to provide water for the tenants, he said that he would have a problem controlling the project. I requested if he could allow me to run the project as my own and he agreed. I thought that was a good business idea and I implemented it. Using some savings worth 400 US I bought a 4000literes tank, and registered the business with 28USD. I built a wooden stand for the tank and the business started. A friend who was had just finished high school is currently running the business. The business gets customers by mainly word of mouth, customers mainly being residents of plots around

My Business

The business name is ‘mwaz water suppliers’ and our motto is ‘Maji ni uhai.’ We plan to expand our business through buying more water tanks which will bebigger in size to enable consistent supply of water. The monthly net profit of the business has increased from 105 US to 125 USD after paying 7USD electricity bill of the electricity consumed since we sell water till late in the night. With part of the net profit the business is able to pay the loan and use the rest of the money to expand the business. The business has been in operation since December 2012 and the business is doing well making good progress in terms of profits especially after getting theprevious loan that increased thewater capacity. Zidisha loans will help in facilitating the achievement of our goals. My plan is to have more tanks, thistime larger ones and open more selling points in other parts of Satellite area
‘Mwaz water suppliers’ hopes to provide water to every residential area in Satellite to alleviate water shortage.
