About Me

My names are Magdalena Katana. I was born and raised in Shanzu, which is a sublocation in Mombasa county in Kenya. I'am the third born in a family of eight children. I'm a happily married mother of three beautiful girls, Philister 14yrs, Sylvia 7yrs and Cynthia 4yrs. I got my education still in Mombasa.
Growing in a humble family, life was quite hard. We could go for some of the days with just a single meal. Even more frustrating, I could be sent out school because of unpaid fees. We could sometimes go and fetch water for our neighbors from a distant well, where we were paid and buy food.
With the hustle, I managed to complete my studies. I then started doing some jobs here and there, whereby I earned some money.
After saving for some time, I decided to start a green grocery business. It is three years now and still running and I'm enjoying the growth thanks to My lenders through Zidisha. My eldest daughter has joined high school this year and the others are still in primary school.
During my free time, I like watching gospel songs and soaps on television.

My Business

My business deals with all types of green groceries. I get vegetables, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, variety of fruits and more from the market in wholesale price then come and sell in the village in retail.
In return, I do get some profit which I normally use for my upkeep together with my kids and siblings. Now that my eldest daughter is in high school whereby the fees are quite expensive, I would love to help my husband by paying tuition fees for the younger daughters. In some instances when the sales are high, I do put some money back to the business as inventory.
Apart from my husband, I mostly depend on my business and I'am quite optimistic that with you my Lenders, it will grow to a big one and even create job opportunities for others.

Loan Proposal

My Lenders,
I kindly request for a loan of 8535 KES which I will use to expand my green grocery business.
Given the loan, I intend to use it as follows:-
4000 KES will be used to make more shelves because the stock will be bigger now.
4000 KES will be used to buy vegetables like spinach, kale, cabbages and tomatoes.
The remaining 500 KES will be for transport.
Thank you very much and be blessed.

My Dear Lenders, I'm very sorry for not being able to make payments properly. This is due to very low sales in my business. Will not give up hoping for the best in future.
