About Me

I am the son of Khamed Moussa Amadou. He is the head of the village of Afenatess, situated 7 km from the department of Abalak. Myself, I live in Niamey in the Abidjan quarter, not far from the Arewa dispensary. I'm an expert at crafts, I am an artist. I never went to school, but I speak a little French. I sell jewelry in French. The idea of being independent, as the son of the village chief, got me into starting up a business in order to be able to finance my expenses and those of my family. I have one wife and two children. The profits of my trade serve to pay the rice, oil, meal, milk, rent and bills as well as fuel for my car. My extended family does not rely on me, being the family of a village chief.

My Business

My business consists of various arts and crafts. You know, I am a teacher in this field. I don't leave for Europe or the United States. Those who do leave give my work in the form of orders, because nobody can do the work I do and I forbid anyone whosoever to imitate my creations or models. The high demand of my jewelry is thanks to the explanation from above. The customers are also forwarded to my by others who have bought from my and who were truly satisfied with my work. The business is profitable quite simply because I receive a steady flow of orders, there's always an order waiting for me. To my knowledge there's no risk at all. It would be difficult to tell you specifically what the monthly costs are, apart from that I know the price of a sack of rice, milk, oil necessary each month or fuel for my car etc. The income of the sales goes up to about 600.000 CFA francs each month. If the profit, i.e. the difference between my monthly costs and my sales, I think I make a very good profit, because I don't smoke or drink alcohol, in short I don't have any useless expenses.

I want to buy metals such as pure silver, nickel, bronze, copper powder, Araldite glue, pins, brushes, acid and all one needs for this line of work. After having bought pure silver and nickel, I go to the machine first to melt the stuff and then to make necklaces, rings and earrings.
