About Me

My name is Mary Adhiambo. I am 45years old. I was born in monogamous family and I am the third born in a family eight. My dad was an Administrative Police Officer while my mum is a house wife. My dad was killed in aborted coup attempt in 1982 while on duty in Nairobi. I went to Aluor girls secondary school in Kisumu. I later joined Asumbi technical college where I pursued diploma in dressing making..
After completing my diploma in 1990. I looked for a job with no success. I finally landed a job in late 1993 but the payments was so poor. In early 2000, with $120 savings from my previous employment I bought a sewing machine,I could not afford a premise by then so I used to work from my mums house. I did quality work and advertised my business, and with a few months I got so many referrals and my business was booming. I rented a small shop in our shopping center ,that I use for my business.
I like dancing ,singing, meeting new people and reading novels.

My Business

My business entails designing and dress making. The clients describe what they want,I design and get back to them. if they approve my work then I go ahead to make the dress, using there preferred materials.
Designed dresses are very important in the society today as most people prefer to wear what they like . I produce good quality work to help me retain my clients as well as get referrals to new clients.
In a month i spend $150 on buying materials, electricity and machine maintenance ,my monthly revenue average is $300. I make average $180 in profits
I use my profits to pay school fees for my sister a,save for business expansion and take care of my families general expenses.

Loan Proposal

I am requesting you sir/madam to help me expand my business through financing me to help me acquire a new overclock machine for my business. The new over lock machine will help me cut costs of hiring the machine at 0.5 per cloth and significantly increase my revenues. To add on that it will increase my efficiency and make me serve more clients. Thank you, and welcome to my shop.

    Dear Zidisha Team,
I have tried to get in touch with Mary Adhiambo but her phone is Off.
I have called Joel Odhiambo one of the family member and he says since Mary's phone is off he will not be able to reach Mary because he stays in Nairobi Njiru and Mary stays at home since they were husband and wife and now separated. He says that if we are read he can direct us at home in the village where Mary stays.

Thank You again Zidisha but it is difficult for us as mentors to go to these peoples home because their is no security and you have to be authorised.

I have asked Joel just to try if we can get another contact for Mary on how we can reach her. He said he will try but not sure.
I will call again Joel next week.

    Thank You,
    Gladys Adera,
    Volunteer Mentor.

    Dear Zidisha Team,

I have tried to call Mary but she is not answering my call. I have spoken to James Adika one of the close relatives to Mary and I have asked him to talk to Mary about her payments and how she can adjust her payments to 100/ and pay for the days she has not been able to pay her loan, and when her business is better, she can increase her payment. He as said he would tell Mary exactly that.

    Thank You,
    Gladys adera,
    Volunteer Mentor.

    Dear Zidisha Team,
I have contacted Mary Adhiambo and she said she could not be able to communicate because there was no power and she was also not feeling well. She is requesting to pay her loan on sunday 5th of this month. I have asked her next time she can just adjust her payment instead of not paying any amount. She says she would do so.

    Thank you Gladys Adera
