I was born and raised in a village in Kiambu county in Kenya. I am 24 years old old and am from a family of six: four brothers and two sisters. I am the last born of the family. Just like many people in Kiambu, my parents are farmers and that is their source of income. I cleared my high school in 2009 and joined a college in 2011. I studied for two years and acquired a Diploma in Business Administration. I always wanted to have a degree but my parents didn't have the money to pay for university. After college, I got myself a job as a supervisor in target network in Ongata Rongai. My responsibility was overseeing the business operation. I moved to Ongata Rongai Nairobi plot No 160 Riverside where I currently live. After working for a year, I lost my job. I tried to get a job elsewhere but getting a job in Kenya is very difficult and that is what motivated me to start my own business. I used all my savings as capital and knew I had to do everything possible to make the business work because it was my only source of income.
My business deals with school uniforms. It's located in Langata, Nairobi. I started the business over a year ago. At first, the business was very challenging because my competitor was a well known shop and I was just upcoming, but with patience and hard work it finally got stable. My client is Briar Rose Academy. I work with the school administration. All parents joining the school buy a uniform from me because I can get a uniform according to parents needs. It's convenient for the parents since I am within the school. I have a shop where I pay rent of 30000KES per month. As for the uniform, I buy materials and take it to a tailor where she makes trousers, shirts and dresses. Others such as sweaters, socks and trucksuits, I outsource in Nairobi. In a good month, I can make up to 90000KES, but in a bad month things can be difficult. The profits I get I use to replenish the stock, cover expenses and save the remaining amount.
Hello Lenders.
As previously stated, I am in Zetech University now in my third year specializing in finance. Part of my school work is to do a project where you choose a problem, research on it and get solutions for this problem. This work base, which is part of curriculum, requires me to have a laptop to store the data I have researched, and also to allow typing to reduce the cost of going to a cybercafe for this service which is expensive in Kenya.
The laptop that I want to purchase costs 35 dollars. It will have right specs for this task. The rest of the money will be used in the research expenses such as making questionnaires, and paying fares to drop these questionnaires in various organizations to get different opinions from different people in different parts of the country on their organizations' structure and culture and how they are affected by them. Thank you in advance.
