About Me

My name is Joseph Mbogo. I come from a family of five, three brothers, mum and dad. I am the second born in our family. I have a passion for business. I thank God for giving me strength through trying moments and for His blessings. I have always had a passion for farming and I was motivated by my former colleague who encouraged me to practice farming and to end food security in our country and earn a living. I graduated from the University of Nairobi in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in economics and sociology. Through my savings and borrowed small loans from my relatives, I started farming and it in 2012 on a quarter piece of land. I harvested 10 bags and earned a profit of $45. This encouraged me even more I I decided to invest in farming to better my future. Farming has improved my life especially from zidisha loan. I am very grateful for how you have assisted us and I look forward to maintain the same trust I kept before.

My Business

I am proud to be a farmer and potatoes performs very well in our region. Potato is a staple food in our country and currently is being used to feed starving populations in drought hit areas. I started on an acre piece of land by leasing government land where trees have been cut down just as a give a trial, my first harvest gave me hope to continue farming. Zidisha gave me my first loan and it has helped me so much. I can attest much of my progress has been due to the loan you lent to me. I planted potato seedling on an acre piece of land at $22.5663, and leased the land for $45.1326. It incurred me field operational costs of $ 78.9820. I just sold the potatoes recently and made a net profit of $ 293.362. The total profit was $ 631.856, and I incurred total expenses of about $ 338.494 which included transport, labor, fertilizers, potato seedlings, chemicals to protect the plants from scotching effect of morning frost, and other miscellaneous expenses. The potato farming has little competition since the crop itself is a staple food and is largely consumed in Kenya. There is always a demand for this crop even before it is mature enough for harvesting. Some even ordered my potatoes in advance since the buyers are competing for it. This crop cannot let me down and I am convinced because the climate in our place is very good for planting potatoes. When you will give me another opportunity, I am confident that I will be in position to repay. I also have some saving as a back up incase there will be uncertainties but I am optimistic that I will earn good profit. I thank zidisha and all lenders who supported me in my first loan and for those who did not; I am honored to invite you to fund my current loan. Thank you.

Loan Proposal

Dear lenders, I am very happy to say that I am succeeding in potato farming from the first loan I had taken. I would like to lease two more acres of land and plant potatoes before the planting season passes. I use forest scheme land where I plant crops on a land where trees have been cut down and do farming for about five years before trees are planted again. The forest officer promised to hold two more acres of land for me at a price of $90.6251, plus $45.1326 for the previous one acre land. I have used $56.4157amount from my profit from previous potatoes to prepare the one acre I planted. The following is my budget estimate; potato seedlings- $101.548 for 3 acres of land, DAP fertilizer @ $33.8494 for 50kg/acre, and $101.548 for 3 acres of land, labor cost @ $112.831inclusive of primary cultivation and secondary cultivation, $23.6946/3 acres of Rendomie, a chemical used to spray potatoes so as to protect them from morning frost, the remaining $90.2651and $135.398my present in my reserve will cover any miscellaneous expenses until harvesting. The budgetary allocation covers all field operations from planting to harvesting.
Each of the acres can produce 15 bags of potatoes, which sell at about Ksh. 2800/bag. This is $473.892/acre and $1,421.68in 3 acres of land. I will incur a total cost of $789.820; therefore, I will earn a profit of about $631.856. I am very optimistic this year because I have traders as far as other provinces who have promised to buy my produce when I will harvest and the rainy season has been very accommodating. The soil in our region is very good for potato farming.
I am proud to say that my life has improved, I have at least several bags of potatoes as reserves and have donated five bags to help needy children at ‘Children’s Orphanage rehabilitation Centre’. I am able to support myself and this is possible because of any lender and zidisha team who reached out and helped me. I am thankful for that and I wish in invite every lender towards funding of my loan. YOU ARE ALL WELCOME AND ASANTE SANA.

@Kilmeny, i have had the worst time in this year. I had planted my potatoes but there were skirmishes which broke out and the potatoes were destroyed. I wanted to post this last week that i could inform you of my troubling situation but i was afraid i would disappoint you. But i realize there is no need to keep the pain in my chest and, that is why i have decided to post today. Tha does not mean that i have given up with zidisha community, in fact, my loses have motivated me to work even harder next year. Although i have had a lot of debts i have been resolving, i will get on my feet and start repayment my loan. I do not want to take the last shred of hope from you and make you believe that my loan will be amongst the dead one, NO! I have lived knowing that i should not back down, and this uncertainty that knocked on my door step, i will overcome it soon. I am sorry for those who have thought that i disappeared, but i assure you that i did not, and i will still commit myself towards repaying my loan. God bless you all and may you have a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Dear Joseph, I'm sorry that you have had such a hard year. It's awful that your crop was destroyed in such a way. It's difficult to understand how people can act like that some times.
I'm glad that you did tell us your troubles, I have every faith that you will be able to get back on your feet with time. I hope that the new year will be much better for you, blessings.

Hello Kilmeny, i am happy that i am doing fine with my farming project this year, there has been a lot of rain in our place which is good for the potatoes. As you can see on my repayment schedule, i have adjusted to so that i can get ample time to allocate the loan to the farm and as soon as i harvest the potatoes, i will reschedule upwards to complete paying back the loan. you don't have to worry for putting your trust in me, life is a journey and interwoven, this means that loyalty is a principle i adhere to in any of my working relationships. Therefore i see the need to reciprocate the kind gesture of funding my loan by ensuring that i will pay in time especially when i get profits this year. i hope all is going well with you too. Thank you and i will update you and all my dear lenders on my upcoming farming ventures.

I feel very happy to complete my loan. i just made my last installment yesterday thanks to the loan zidisha that was lent me. i was initially struggling with farming before i even new that zidisha existed. i opened a retail shop to increase my capital hoping one day i would succeed. when i learned zidisha and applied for my first loan, i stocked my shop and net profit increased from Ksh. 500 to Ksh. 1000. The customers were very happy because they could find most of the commodities in my shop. i had difficult times when operating the shop like trading license from local authorities, health officials and so on. i managed to comply to the changing government structures. i was still a proud farmer and cultivating crops which at that time was on a quarter piece of land. i was using government forest scheme to lease land for farming and this year, i targeted to plant an acre of land with potatoes. when the forest officer realized my dedication and commitment, he granted me an acre of land in the midst of rich farmers who were competing to gamble for a larger piece of land. the crops grew well and thanks to conducive rainy season, i recently harvested my potatoes and earned a a substantial profit of Ksh. 35000. that translated to a net profit of Ksh. 15000. i now have a testimony to say that zidisha has changed my life. i was in a house which i had lent with a friend of mine who is a motorbike cyclist but now i have moved to my own house. all this i give tribute to every lender and zidisha staffs who supported me and still they are. and for those who did not, i am open to say that i believe our paths will cross again. i am now planning to expand my farming and hopefully, become an investor in farming. i still put my trust in zidisha. Africa appreciates you for showing that you care by transcending geographical barriers to reach out and help us. THANK YOU SO, SO MUCH. www.zidisha.org/microfinanc...

dear lenders. i feel joy to update you on my success. i have my first accomplishment which zidisha have supported me. i diversified my business and started potato farming. i have managed to cultivate a larger piece of land than before. i used to plant on a quarter acre of land but now i have planted and harvested potatoes on an acre of land. i had promised to finish my outstanding loan as soon as i got profits from sale of my potatoes. i am happy to tell you that i will begin my full repayment this week. I feel honored and i hope lenders will continue to assist me. Also, i plan to take an opportunity to plant sooner because of the rains. the land officer has been pleased with my hardwork and has promised to add me more land for farming. i expect to cultivate two acres and with the hope you instilled in me, i take this opportunity to invite you again in my next loan. thank you so much and may your lives be filled with happiness and joy.

Habari yako zidisha and my dear lenders, i have had a very nice Good Friday and Easter Monday. i am also very happy to let you know that i am having a break through in potato farming. If you remember earlier, i wrote about how i had struggle when farming to finance my retail shop. i admired the way others lived happily, were truly blessed and i felt being the odd one out. No one deserves to be poor and so do i. Today, i want to update you that you are the reason i am full of joy. You have made me to believe that there are good people regardless of how far they are. That there are angels in form of people who cry for us even when we don't realize it. Dear lenders and zidisha, you are my distant family. i am about to harvest my potatoes which i have been cultivating in an acre of land. i was able to lease an acre of land using the forest settlement scheme where our government allows us to cultivate on cleared land for five your before it plants trees again at an affordable price for an acre of land. i expect to harvest my potatoes at the end of next month. i have a school which has ordered in advance to buy them. It is an African tradition to donate part of our harvest to the need in order to bless our sweat and for this, i will put aside five bags to my potatoes to the church and donate them to children's orphanage home. I have uploaded pictures of my potatoes and as you can see they are near to maturity. I wish you a nice week. www.zidisha.org/microfinanc...

Dear lenders, i invested the money wisely and it has enabled me diversify my investment in agriculture. i used the government forest settlement scheme to lease an acre of land, i have planted potatoes and i expect a good harvest this year, my shop has most of the goods and i have little worry of the competition i was facing from my opponent. i can see i will be moving much faster with my investment plans. i am communicating with my colleagues to open untapped opportunities which i will like to share with you as time goes on. i am still on repayment track but i hope to clear my arrears soon. i am very thankful for your support. i wish zidisha team and all lenders a fabulous week.https://www.zidisha.org/microfinance/loan/Jmbogo/5216.html#c130035

Thank you evinpa for the concern and i apologize for not replying to you soon. My business is doing okey although the sales have reduced a bit because most of my customers are farmers and they have diverted their spending much on preparing their farms for planting. I am still able to pay my instalments and i commit myself to zidisha. I have been able to supply in large quantities goods highly demanded by customers which include sugar, cooking fat, soaps, rice and books. I still need to buy all other commodities that customers still demand and that will require another capital. I hope zidisha will support my target and which i still thank lenders who funded my first loan.

Francis Gachara is my friend and i was mentoring him with career he wished would want to pursue while in secondary school and he wanted to become a teacher. There were unfortunate circumstances that befell on their family which rendered him an opharn. I was wondering who i would invite to benefit from zidisha and he came to my memory. When i remembered a day i met him talking passionately about his ambition for farming, i felt zidisha to be his hope. I have put my trust in his ability and i do not doubt his loyalty. Feel welcome to integrate him as part of zidisha community.

First, i want to say i am very happy for Zidsha team and all the lenders for supporting me. I received my loan today and bought shop items to full capacity. Truly Zidisha has transformed my life today. Every item that was lacking before i had it and customers were very happy for fulfilling their needs. There were even some who i had promised this week i would bring them specific goods they had ordered and they came to confirm and buy them. I lack the words to express my gratitude to you all. I will show my appreciation by complying to loan settlement schedule. I will also keep you informed about every hurdle and tussle i encounter. May you dwell in abundance and be blessed. Hi Joseph, I know you are desperate for a loan, but please stop posting ads for your loan on the Lenders Group pages and multiple Members Forum threads.

Putting more work into a solid business plan would get you the attention you need.
Thank you in advance for your consideration and restraint.

    Hello Joseph Mbogo,

As a lender, I not only look at the information that is filled out in the three sections above but I also look here in the comments section to see what the person has written. I think it might be beneficial if you share some information here that you had written on the forum. Other lenders might not have seen what you wrote and might like to learn more about how you manage the potato farming on the land you are leasing, as well as the shop.

I wish you luck in raising your funds. It sounds like you will be able to make good use of the Zidisha loan.

I have been reviewing how Zidisha is performing in terms payment of loans and i feel bad to see the shame some of the borrowers are painting to our reputation. I think trust is is a virtue which should not be left out not only on Zidisha community, but also in every aspect of our life.
