About Me

Well, am Nebart Elegwa from the western part of Kenya, one of the eastern Africa nations. Born on 6th of July 1977 to parents who were indeed poor to the level that we had no roof over us. Oftenly rain poured on us. My desperate mom struggled to put at least a meal on the table since my dad who had been taken ill couldn't make it. This affected even in my education. I could not make it to 4th year in secondary level. I had to drop in 2nd year. Life became tough. My siblings were oftenly ill. Six of them died in succession. In all I ventured business world. Challenges have been so many but by God's grace am pressing on. Finances to boost my business is the main challenge since I have children am educating and two of them are orphans. They are ambitious kids who despite all are encouraged to move on. What a joy it will be to me if my request is approved. I will be able to withstand some of the financial storms on my way.

My Business

In the year 2016 in July I rented a room for business. Since I had very little cash I opted for a hotel. This was a fairer option since I had furniture and some utensils so I had to look for some few items like flour, cooking oil to kick off the business. Raising better equipment and stock for the business remained a challenge which by support from Zidisha loans I made great success, my business improved to a better scale. I have had a better environment, improved stock and attractive place of business.
By endeavoring to diversify my vision I later ventured into poultry and then later into dairy with goats and with your continued support I have realized my dream come true. I just began with local breed and with your support I have upgraded to improved breed, which apart from normal challenges it's all well. It is with your last support I managed to boost this project. Thanks a lot.
By now,my dairy goats have improved and I've decided to add a good breed of cattle, since with cattle I'll be sure of more dairy products and hence an improved business. The goats are still a good breed, good for dairy products, like milk. With the next loan that am anticipating from Zidisha family and friends I'll have, as earlier indicated, to acquire a good breed of cattle for the dairy products and the balance, in case it remains, boost the already existing projects. To me I bless God for you zidisha family for being great partners in business, because by these am able to support my family and to run other activities which contribute positively to my community.
I therefore still kindly request for your support towards this new upgrade. My intent is to further diversify my investment so as to have a stable income. I therefore kindly request for your support.
I thank you in advance for purposing to to support me.
A good breed of cattle for dairy products ranges between 8,000$ 12,000$ from an agricultural institute farm. I therefore kindly request for your support to keep my poultry, and dairy projects well.
Again, thanks in advance.

Loan Proposal

I will have to clear the balance of the goats I acquired on loan, purchase some dairy products for my poultry and the animals, along with that I will improve my hotel business.

Income Source

It's true that many businesses have been affected because of the covid-19 pandemic, yet my confidence of repaying this loan at least efficiently is because my products are those rated as essential in our country because they include dairy and poultry alongside the hotel that am operating partially. This is why I have the confidence and humbly request you to stand with me even during this hard moment. Thanks in advance for your understanding dear precious lenders.

    Hello Nebart,

I want to let you know 2 important things.

    1. Try to stay positive. I have read all your messages here, and see you mention several times you are "down, down".

We understand its tough economic times for everyone now. Certainly I am not angry with you and surely other lenders feel same way.

Having a positive attitude, is very helpful. Try to hold on to hope, this will get better.

    2. Your communication with us is critical.

I have lent money to some others who also have not paid their loans fully yet.
But they have not said anything here.

If someone takes a loan, and has troubles, difficulty to pay on time, the worst thing to do, is to stay silent here.

    We are patient,
We are understanding, and we have compassion for others.
I say "we" because I belive most of us are this way.

We came to join Zidisha as lenders, because we care about our "brothers & sisters" around the world, who also struggle to build a better future, the same as all of us.

When someone stops payments, and then stays quiet, not answering the phone etc. that shows a lack of respect for Zidisha, and their lenders.

Nebart, you are doing this the right way. Communicate with us to let us know you are having difficulties.

I have much respect for your honesty, please keep positive for the future as this will pass and better business days is coming.

    Nikko.

Dear Nikko, thanks for this message on behalf of the other lenders. It's very unfortunate for me, not my expectation to be in such a position of unpaid debts.
When you lent me the money I knew that I'll pay it quickly, unfortunately the unfolding of unexpected events have beat me severely down, but am optimistic, and as you said I purpose to remain positive.

1.Covid 19 did strike, tough economic times came

      2. One of my workers plundered me and ran away with some money and stock.

      3. I had to lay down workers for lack of enough pay...

These basically, besides other happenings have rendered me down.

Thank you so much for understanding, though am very, very sorry for these happenings.

But hopefully I will make by the help of God...

      Best regards...

      Nebart.

Nikko, you could not have said it better. When you say 'we', I sure am one of the lenders who feels exactly the same.

Nebart, although I have not contributed to this loan, I have followed your loans. There sure are difficult times. As Nikko says above, stay positive and stay in touch through updates here. I sure will keep track and contribute as much as I can to your next loan. Wish you all the best.
