About Me

My name is David Waigwa. I was born in Central Kenya where I was brought up. I then relocated to coastal town of Mombasa 15 years ago in search of greener pastures.

I started business as a photographer and through savings, I enrolled for a short computer course to learn computer literacy. I later enrolled for a video editing course where I learned video editing skills using computers.

Through more savings, I managed to buy one computer and a camera which I use to do my videos, work. I combine both still and video coverage that is what gives me and my family our daily bread.

I am married with two children aged - both girls aged 13 and 5 years old.

My Business

My business deals with photography, both still and videos. I also undertake video editing work for other cameramen who do not have equipment or skills to do the job. I have done this work for the last 10 years and I am well known within my area of operation.

I cover functions such as weddings, documentaries and music. I make an average net profit of $350 per month.

I face a number of challenges in my business but the main one is lack of capital to expand the business. The equipment for this job are costly and getting credit locally is a bit hard.

If I get a loan of $150 from Zidisha, I will be able to add this amount to my savings and buy a fast and reliable computer since the one I have is old and cannot support the latest Operating system and video editing programs which are essential in my work.

Loan Proposal

I am a videographer specializing in social events and documentaries. I serve both low budget clients as well as corporate clients. I also take still photographs for the same occasions. My business is busy all year round but the season peaks in August and December due to the high number of weddings held in those months. I do video editing using my computer. I make an average net profit of $400 per month. I currently use one computer to do all the editing work.

This slows me down, since I cannot multi-task. To satisfy my clients, I would like to have another computer which will make it possible for me to clear the backlog much faster. A refurbished computer with a fairly good speed will cost me around $150 and this will go a long way in increasing my productivity.

Dear lenders, I am sorry I have to reduce my weekly payment to KES 200 from KES 500 due to a low season that I am currently experiencing. I hope to resume to my normal amount as soon as the business income improves. I kindly ask for your understanding. Thank you.

Due to Zidisha's interest rate change, seems like it would be better to let this application not be accepted. Then David should refile and get the lower interest rate.

Dear Rob, I really don't mind repaying the loan with a small interest instead of repeating this process a second time. Thanks for your concern.

I am very thankful for the first loan that I got from Zidisha. I used it to buy a computer that I use as a tool for my video and photo editing work. This brought a lot of convenience to what I do and my clients are how happier and more satisfied with my work.

My business is booming and I have decided to shorten my repayment period. This way I will save on interest charged on this loan. I am also expecting to apply for a bigger loan so that I can expand my business even further.

With Zidisha support, the sky is the limit. Thank you all for the valuable support you have given me this far.
