About Me

Am Grace Nyambura Mungai , a 33 years old lady. I was born in Kipipiri District. I started my primary school in 1986 at Mahindu Primary school. I sat for my KCPE in the year 1994. I later joined Wanjohi secondary School in 1995. I finished high school in 1998. After my high school I could not immediately join College as my mother who was educating me could not afford it. However two years later, I was blessed and joined Mwangaza College, in Nakuru where I pursued my Diploma in Catering.

I finished in 2004. I was employed in one of the five star hotels in Nakuru known as Merica Hotel. I worked for two years in this hotel. I got employed by Alpha Dairys Based in Nairobi. However with my new capacity as a sales lady with the company they stationed me in Nakuru. In this capacity as a sales lady, I gained a lot experiences which enabled me to think about starting my own business. I resigned and started my own business of selling Ice – cream and yoghurt from the same company Alpha Dairys under my shop called Ice – cream parlour located in Highway towers in Nakuru Town.

The Alpha Dairys as part of its incentives to encourage business people to sell their products gave me two freezers and one scooping machine. These two, assisted me to start well. I had saved some money which I used to buy three (3) tables and twelve (12) seats. After some time I was able to stock my shop with all the flavours in order to meet customers demand. Apart fo the ice – creams I also do milk – shakes, fruit – shakes and sundaes.

After for months of business, I realised that I needed a cappuccino machine (coffee) because I realised that the sale of ice – creams went down during wet seasons. I was able to do this from my savings. The coffee sold from my shop boost sales and supplements income.

With my training in Catering I have been slowly been turning to baking of cakes used in Birthday parties, weddings and small pieces sold in my shop. Am planning to go into field work that will involve organising weddings, visiting schools; when there some activities like visiting day and agricultural trade fare. In order to do this I will need to buy a taylor dispenser machine and a candy floss.

Am a mother of two lovely children aged 13yrs and 6yrs respectively. I support my family from proceeds from this business

My Business

I started my own business of selling Ice – cream and yoghurt made by Alpha Dairys under my shop called Ice – cream parlour located in Highway towers in Nakuru Town. I also sell Coffee in order to supplement my income during the wet seasons. As I had indicated earlier I also do some baking which is also good for my business. The two complement one another. From the two; ice cream shop and baking am able to make a profit of average kshs 1,600 per day after I minus all the cost used to purchase Ice – cream from Alpha Dairys and other cost that emanate from my baking side job. This amounts to Kshs 48, 000 per month.

From this amount I pay the following; The shop’s rent at Kshs 6,000 per month, Single Business permit at Kshs 500 per month (Translates to Kshs 6, 000 per year), Salaries of my two employees at Kshs 7, 000 per employee totalling to Kshs 14, 000 per month, garbage disposal levy of Kshs 500 per month, Hotel & food allied society levy of Kshs 200 per month (translating to 2400 per month), Electricity bills of Kshs 2,000 and miscellaneous expenses of 5, 000 per month.

This totals to Kshs 28,200. After I have paid for these expenses am left with Kshs 19,800.

    About My Business
Am involved in distribution of envirofit charcoal cooking stoves & firewood cooking stoves these products reduce pollution and energy dependence while yielding health, environmental and economic improvements of the resident and population in nakuru town west constituency in Kenya-Nakuru and the world at large.
For me and my family the Envirofit stove is the best, it saves wood and saves my money. Preventing Climate Change, Environ fit’s clean burning cooking stoves promote decent combustion and significantly impact the environment. 65% Reduction of Carbon Monoxide, 80% Reduction of smoke & toxic emissions 40% Reduction of Black Carbon.
    As the second leading cause of global warming, traditional biomass stoves account for 20% of the world’s black carbon emissions. In addition, poor wood combustion needlessly wastes natural resources leading to global deforestation as shown below;

The world's most fuel efficient charcoal stove – Up to a 50% reduction over a typical or traditional type stove! This stove is ‘Carbon’ friendly - The highest CO2 reduction of any stove on the market.
So lenders I am sourcing for more funds to help stock and distribute the products within Nakuru County and Kenya at large where the potential is huge. I strongly feel the assistance will enable me empower and uplift the living standard of more people in our country & the world at large.
The Venture is highly profitable for instance if stock 1000pcs @ cost kshs.1800/= and resale the @ 3000/= each within a period of two weeks, then am in business
    My Story
I am a married man ,blessed with two sons aged 7 and 5 years old respectively ,I work as an accountant at Nakuru Town West CDF office, where we are working with community projects that seek to enhance food self sufficiency, improved nutrition levels, education and improvement of living standards in general to mention but a few. These project activities are tailored to work within the focus of the Kenya Government Vision 2030 strategy framework which aims at having the country develop into a middle-level economy by year 2030.
I have started my own initiative of distributing the envirofit cooking stoves at affordable rates to enable us save the environment for prosperity. My main objective is to a make a decent living by helping others
    (a) To initiate and support projects that offer ‘Alternative Livelihood’ activities to local communities that daily face the challenges of meeting their basic needs.
    (b) To catalyze and sustain in the local communities the culture of ‘looking beyond the ordinary’ in their quest for solutions to the regular development challenges facing those communities.
    (c) To enhance women and the youth involvement and mainstreaming in development activities carried out by local communities.
    (d) To facilitate networking of different local communities for the purpose of sharing tested innovative methods (and technology), of tackling development challenges in their lives.
    (e) To promote advocacy and enhance awareness in local communities on issues that greatly hinder or reduce their capacity to enjoy full benefits of their development efforts.
The only challenge is lack of capital, which I humbly request lenders to give me a loan to enable me expand and stock these wonderful products enrich our lives and their empowering more people which in the long run will enable me fulfill my dream of setting up a business and helping others.

also my lenders rabbit keeping is another vital project which is generating a lot of money in a very speedy way. once a person is able to keep at least three rabbits, this is great. because once they mate with female and male, the female rabbit produces at least ten rabbits . this help a farmer in production and multiplacation of rabbits. then most peoples does not eat red meat. they prefers either rabbit or fish meat. i hope to venture in this business soon.

as i have described earlier, the problem with our country is lack of enough capital. i hope zidisha platform has helped a lot of small enterprenuers who is trying to start small businesses in uplifting of their livelihood. in actual fact most of small businesss needs capital but due to lack of enough money people ends up in doing nothing and wasting the little thet have and ends up bin loosing everything after starting making repayments from the loan may be taken from local banks.
