Loan Proposal

Mine is a small business
of selling clothes,
situated at kisii town in
kenya. It entails
purchasing clothes i.e
official wear, kids and
casual wear and
reselling them. Clothing
being one of the basic
needs makes it a viable
nich that will always a
receptive market.
Admist stiff competion
clients prefer my
clothes because of
quality, affordability and
more so i make sure
each client's order is
delivered on time. The
zidisha loan will help me
increase the stock for
my clothing shop. The
more the stock the
more the profit in
return. I will stock a
variety of warm
clothing like jackets and
sweaters as cold
season is here with us
especially for the kids
which are more
susceptible to illnesses
during cold seasons. I
also plan on employing
one person on part time
basis to deliver clients
basis to avoid closing
the shop when number
of orders are high. I
approximate this to
cost me about
250dollars which at the
moment my saving can
not fully cater the
reason why i need the
zidisha loan. Am
optimistic of your
funding and give my
assurance in repaying
my loan on agreed time.
Thanks zidisha and God
bless you.

    Dear all,

I met Miller Omwenga in Kisii town. Together we took a bodaboda (motorcycle taxi), three people on a small motorbike is the most normal thing in the world here, to his residence a bit on the outskirt of town. It is a student apartment, and thus only has one room, but it is spacious and gives you a pleasant feeling upon entry.

Miller is currently studying business administration at the local university. He has two businesses at the moment, in total giving him a profit of 340 USD a month, allowing him to both finance his fees and support his family. However, this was always the case.

After finishing high school in 2008 he applied to several colleges in Kenya. He also got admitted to most of them, but his family was unable to pay the fees. Miller started taking small jobs wherever he could to at least sustain himself. Being the first born in a Kenyan family he is considered to be a third parent, carrying a huge responsibility to both act as a role model for his 4 younger siblings and help his parents provide for them. He worked among other things as a barber for some time, but none of the jobs enabled him to earn a satisfying amount. In June last year one of his friends introduced him to the concept of selling data bundles. Being a person who grabs any opportunity that comes his way, the concept immediately caught Millers attention, and soon after he was online selling data bundles to customers. Having built up a base of regular costumers this business today gives him around 230 USD a month, significantly more than anything he earned before. The business is easy to manage, as it is all online (quite similar to Zidisha), and he can use his phone to control selling and buying bundles for his customers.

However, this was not enough for Miller. Partly to increase his profits but mostly to employ his brother, who was looking for work, he opened up a second business, a cloth-selling shop. He started it with his own capital, but it did not go well, earning only 23 USD a month. With the first loan he acquired through Zidisha he stocked up his cloth supplies and added bed sheets to his inventory. This lead to a great improvement in the business, which steadily developed now earning him an approximate 115 USD a month! As the business was improving he saw himself in need of more people. Employing one after the other he now has 3 people under his supervision to deal with the cloth business. Being the first born, the fruits of his labor are not solely enjoyed by him. With the money he is also helping his parents to provide for his siblings, currently paying the school fees for 2 of his younger siblings in addition to covering his own fees and living costs.

With a further loan he would be able to expand his cloth-selling business and further improve the situation for him and his family. His future plan is to firstly finish his degree, upon which he hopes to find a job. However, as he already has two businesses running, which are improving steadily, he will not be in a rush and can if necessary simply continue expanding his business and make a comfortable living.

Miller is energetic, devoted and really wishes to help himself, his family and his surroundings. As a volunteer mentor (clients of ours that volunteer to help other clients), he personally meets with people whenever possible, and really tries to understand their situation and help them to the best of his capabilities. It was a pleasure to watch such devotion within a young man only a few years older than myself.

Miller, don't you think you are being overdramatic, unprofessional, and very unfair with your comments on my Zidisha profile? I beg you to approach all communications with a sober and mature mind. I forgive your outburst noting you are a young man and probably don't have much experience learning courtesy. But please delete the unfair comments and make an apology. While at it, also note that my loan is not only paid up to date but even paid ahead of schedule. You really had no reason to post on my profile. Additionally, the time we spoke was on 7th June. That is 20 days ago my friend. Within that period, I have made 3 payments to Zidisha and by the time you posted you had not contacted me or checked to see what my current status is. Please let us guard reputations and act professionally at all times. Thanks
