About Me

I am the first born in a family of four. Both my parents were primary school teachers. They did their best to provide for me and my siblings with basic needs and education to college level.

Having a Diploma as my highest level of education i got a clerical job on contract terms in an NGO that was not well paying. Having been raised at the rural i had grown up in the farms and had a passion for farming. So i started Agribusiness to help me look for extra income to sustain my family and give them their best. And also for contracted staff your job can end any time which is risky.

I have 2 children who are still young and just started schooling.

My Business

I do majorly horticulture. I farm tomatoes, Onions, capsicums, passion fruits, water melons and arrow roots.

The crops i plant are marketable and on demand in all seasons so i believe i can not go wrong with them. The main challenge is pests and viruses that attack the crops and bring losses. Another challenge is unfavorable weather conditions.

The proceeds i get from the sale of the crops help me pay for my children's school fees, their medical bills and the basic needs. It has also helped me build a permanent shelter for my family. Am looking forward to better things in future.

Loan Proposal

I planted my passions fruit seedlings in February 2016 and so far they are growing fast! I will use my loan to buy passion fruit trellis for my 500 passion fruit seedlings. The trellis are posts of height 10 feet that support the passion fruits so that they dont lie on the ground to avoid infections. They cost Kshs. 35,000/=

Thanks alot for Zidisha family for your help in running my farming projects by funding me. Its unfortunate that am unable to repay my loan due to the drought that I have experienced on my farm since October 2016. Am working hard to put things in order..The well of water I depended on for irrigation dried up. The climatic conditions or rather pattern has changed drastically. We expected rain in the month of April 2017 but up to now no rains yet. Am trying my best and will pay my loan. Sorry for the inconviniences caused.

Hi Miriam, I live in a dry place and use cardboard between my garden rows to help conserve moisture. I cover the cardboard with woodchips. This helps to keep weeds down and feeds the earthworms. Do you use mulch? Have a blessed New Year, Mary

It is dry season in our country at the moment and the well I depended on for irrigation of my cupscicums and tomatoes water levels went as low as 70% . So less water on my farm has led to low production of cupscicums at the moment.

Wow that is a lot of plants! Do you sell the peppers for food only or for medicine?

Log in to reply • Share
      • Miriam    Oct 30, 2016

@Kate I sell it for food only. In my country Kenya, people consume it as a spice. So it is cooked in stews to add flavour & others use it as vegetables.
