My name is michael, married and a father of 4 kids. I come from a place called Nguku in Muranga county. I was born in a family of nine whereby I was the first born. My parents practiced farming which is small scale farming. We had coffee as a cash crop but it then lost value which made life so hard for our family. The land was so small and therefore the life was from hand to mouth. All in all we were able to get some formal education upto form four and that was it. That is when i decided I will continue with the small scale farming for a living . I do vegetable farming in the small inheritance farm, rear some kienyeji chicken and have two cows for dairy farming. I would wish that my life changes for the better and my kids get better education than myself
I do small scale farming dealing with vegetables, chicken and dairy farming in a small farm. On the farm I have a well in support of a seasonal river which helps me in doing irrigation on my vegetables and offer water for my animals. The vegetables I sell to the market during market days. This brings me an average of 2 dollars per day. I also sell eggs from my chicken an average of 1 dollar per day. The milk I get from the cows sells at an average of 3 dollars per day.Apart from the income the farm assists me in feeding my family and assist my aging parents.
I am planning to buy a bicycle which will cost me 70 dollars and a sprinkler and pipe will cost 20 dollars. The bicycle will assist me to transport my end products to the market very fast and the sprinkler will assist me to ease irrigation work thus improve on my farming. I am hoping as we approach the festive seasons my sales will rise by more than 20%.
