I am Kaime Kiptoo, first born in a family of four. I am married with one child. I do not come from a well off family. A single parent has brought me up. Due to financial constraints, I was forced to go to the northern arid part of Kenya to attain my primary and secondary school education because school fees were affordable. That is what challenged me to work harder and I attained a good grade. After my A’ level I undertook a postgraduate course in Analytical Chemistry and Management. I was employed in a public secondary school as a laboratory technician. The money I was earning from the job was not enough to gather for my family that is why I opted to look for another job and I was employed with Safaricom Telecommunication Company as a sales man. From my salary savings, I started a small retail shop with pharmaceutical drugs, laboratory chemicals, and reagents. I live in Rift valley, Trans-nzoia County, Kitale town. The land is very productive in agriculture especially farming i.e. maize and its even referred to as the granary of Kenya. My son wants to be architecture in future. My hobbies include; cooking, reading scientific and listening/watching music.
My shop is located along Moi Avenue in Kitale town centre. I deal in; pharmaceutical, apparatus and drugs. I started my business in the year 2013 after saving a capital of $620 from my two jobs. Due to the location of the shop in the centre of kitale town I enjoy the high demand since most highly populated estates are within thus easy to access my shop. I run my business, with a total monthly income of around $350 out of which $150 is profit. I am advantaged because I always ensure excellent customer relations and offer fair prices to ensure that I maintain my customers. I use the profits in my business to pay rent and paying my sales personnel. I also restock the drugs, apparatus and reagents. The risks the business faces include price fluctuations and changes in customer demands. These are handled by buying stock in bulk when prices are fair to avoid very high prices that in turn affect customers and buying the commodities that customers need at different times respectively.
When granted Zidisha loan i will use it to purchase laboratory apparatus I already have some but they are not enough and in adding them i will be able to serve many patients and improve my efficiency in terms of service delivery. It will also generate more profits thus allowing me to be effective and reliable ,beat competition from other firms and help me pay my loan in time.
