Born 30 years ago in a rural village in central Kenya, my love for farming started at a very young age.
I attended the local primary school where i emerged top during our year.
I secured a place in one of the best secondary schools in the country, where i continueddoing very well.
After high school, my mother wanted me to join Teachers college which i strongly objected, and instead, i did a diploma in sustainable agriculture. After college, i did work for two and a half years as a teacher, and it is from this where i saved some money which i used to pursue my childhood dream of farming.
As of now, i am proud to have made the decision of becoming a farmer. I practice mixed farming where i grow some coffee and rear some dairy cattle. Dairy cattle farming has proven to be more profitable and i want to expand it.
I do like travelling when i don't have much work!
I am a mixed farmer and i grow some coffee and rear some dairy cattle. Dairy farming is doing very well since milk has a ready market all the time and i want to specialize in it.
The cost of production is also very low as i grow most of the fodder, like nappier grass and maize. I only have to buy concentrates.
Coffee farming is a bit expensive as it is chemical intensive. The prices are also not stable and sometimes they fall below expectations.
Much of what i get from my farming is currently going towards expanding my enterprise, as am yet to have a family.
I want to purchase coffee seedlings(Ruiru grafted variety) to plant during this long rains season. This variety does very well in this zone. It is a good venture for Agri-business oriented farmers.
