About Me

I have three siblings, and I'm the third born in our family. I had a good childhood, and my parents ensured that we all had a good education up to college. I have a diploma in early childhood education. I'm a widow with four children. Since I am the sole breadwinner, I have to do two or more jobs to fully cater for their needs. I want to give them what I had so that they can be morally, socially, intellectually, and psychologically upright.

I got a small loan from my parents and started a stationery shop to boost my income. It is located near five learning institutions in a densely populated area, hence making business good. I live in an area where children socialize and assist each other in need. As parents, we encourage them to work together to improve the living standards. We parents also believe that our children are tomorrow's leaders, so we meet monthly and discuss our challenges.

My children want to do various things when they grow up. They include a teacher, an artist (he really knows how to draw), and a doctor. The last born is only two years old, so he's not yet decided. I love reading, cooking and travelling.

My Business

Since my shop is in a densely populated area, I manage to make good sales in exercise books, pens, rulers, journals, and other stationary. The shop is located near five learning institutions and others are coming up -- i.e., nursery schools are being opened -- so demand is always there. I chose a stationery shop because I love my career, so I decided to choose something I like doing: mingling with children. I make an average of KSH 500 a day, and I work six days a week. I manage to pay rent, my shopkeeper and monthly bills comfortably. This leaves me with a small profit, which I save for the business growth.

Loan Proposal

There is a lot of demand for typing, printing and photocopy services around. Schools and individuals have been asking for these services. I went window shopping and saw a secondhand computer selling at $100 and a 3-in-1 printer (printer, scanner & photocopier) for $60.

My savings are $80 and I require $90 for the following: desktop computer at $100, printer at $60, photocopy paper at $6, and transport and other miscellaneous expenses at $4.
