About Me

I am Peter Owino Okech, born in 1977 in Bondo District of Siaya Couty-Kenya.
I am married, with 3 children and we live a Migosi in Kisumu City.
I am a Pharmacist by profession and currently running dawalane enterprises.
I attended Kenya Medical Training College for my diploma and higher diploma in pharmacy, I then proceeded to Mount Kenya University for my undergraduate studies in Pharmacy.
Due to lack of employment I ventured into private practice in the year 2012 with my personal savings and family loan from my elder brothers.
Wit the initial capital, I was able to rent a place in Kisumu and bought few drugs for a startup.
Currently, I am employing 2 assistants helping me with dispensing of drugs and purchase of drugs.
I have been able to use the proceeds to educate my children, provide them an avarage living and paying fee for my wife.
I am also supporting my mother back at home.
With the loans from Zidisha, I will be able to expand on the varieties of the drugs to serve the community effectively in an effort to reduce the disease burden.

My Business

I already have a running pharmacy, with stock valued at usd 3000.
My sales per week is about usd 1500. We do weekly purchases with the proceeds. Out of he sales, I make a profit of about usd 200 weekly, which goes to support my family, by paying rent, school fees, buying food and providing other family basic needs. I am able to make some savings of between USD 30-50 per week, which will enable me to repay the loan in time and effectively.
The demand for varieties of drugs is so high and at Car Wash Junction, people like my shop because of the professional services that I provide.
With the loan, I will be able to stock other varieties which sometimes, I refer my customers to buy from other shops. Being that their first stop is at Dawalane Chemists, they always get disappointed when referred to other shops.
The bigger risk is about lacking variety and being a tenant; and when the business grow, I would love to own a place to avoid being kicked out, due to jealousy for my thriving business.

Loan Proposal

Prospective Lenders,
I thank Zidisha for having approved my application to request for this loan.
I will use the kshs 12,756 (usd 150) to buy variety of drugs for my pharmacy. I am targeting the stock that is lacking in my shop.
We have the rainy season again with us and the prevalence and estimated risk of malaria around lake Victoria is now high. I will purchase stock of doxycycline and mefloquine, which is now the recommended drug for treatment of malaria here. My current stock and variety is showing resistance and I am now referring my customers to other shops. They are getting disappointed, having chosen me as their first choice. I want to improve on the quality of treatment and health for a better working nation, that Kenya is. I feel zidisha is the place to turn to for this urgent need and also to develop me and generally improve on other varieties at my countes in the future.

I hope that you are staying dry. It would be very unfortunate if you had to close your clinic due to rain, especially as the rain is likely to cause greater need for medical treatment!
Let us know how things are going when you can.

Heavy rains are being predicted in kenya with Government mobilising funds to mitigate its expected effects at dawalane we pray that it doesn't turn out catastrophic like forecasted. We are deep in swampy place let all pray that the so called Elnino doesn't come to pass. Thanks all with Zidisha we are prepared to mitigate some effects.

I would want to thank Lenders for the loan of 38,117KES that we received at DAWALANE CHEMISTS, by extending your hand to this cause you have really touched lives in a big way in Migosi community.
This loan has been used to Re-stock the Chemist with Malaria , Antibacterial and Dewormer drugs at subsidized costs to the patients, to this extent you have helped participate in resolving health challenges around.
To friends that didn't get opportunity to touch lives through us we are believing GOD for next time. BRAVO from TEAM DAWALANE.

Am greatly humbled by this gesture by Lenders for this Loan on behalf of Dawalane Chemists staff.
Heavy rain is still pounding our neighborhood with devastating health effects as poor drainage and flooding sewerage grounds for breeding mosquitoes and snails that cause Malaria and Bilharzia hence this loan will be used to majorly buy drugs for malaria and bilharzia.
April is always World Malaria awareness Month, this loan has come at opportune time that will enable us offer quantity drugs at subsidized cost to the community.
The proceeds from the sales will be used to repay the loan in time, re-stock the chemist with more antibiotics , on- job training for my wife on computerized point of sales, salaries for staff and family upkeep.
    Regards Zidisha Team,Mentors and Lenders.
