About Me

My name is Peris Daniel. I was born in Nyeri County in central Kenya. I was born in a family of six and I am the 5th born. I went to primary school in Nyeri and then went to Mombasa for secondary education. I later did short courses in driving and computer applications.

I did menial jobs for a few years before deciding to venture into music industry and preaching. This is a talent that I realized could earn me a living if I pursued it seriously. I still live in Mombasa city and continuing with my music and preaching career.

My Business

I am a gospel artiste and I spend most of my time selling my music in form of audio and video CDs. I recorded my first audio album two years ago and this was closely followed by a video CD of the same track. I have sold about 300 audio copies and about 200 copies. I normally sell the cds in open markets, gospel crusades and even door to door. I make a modest profit of about $1 per cd. I supplement my income by doing performances in churches and other social events such as crusades and weddings.

I normally produce copies depending on demand but normally in small quantities like a dozen per batch.
I am planning to record my second album as soon as I get funds to do it.

Loan Proposal

I joined Zidisha early last year and I have had an amazing experience. Apart from getting financial support, some lenders here introduced me to some websites where it is possible to sell my music. Unfortunately, the quality of my recording was below the required standards of these sites.

I now intend to record three songs with the quality that they require and to do this I need to here a camera man who will use a professional camera. The cost of this project will be about USD 300. I believe the returns will be good and this will open many doors for me.

    Hi Peris,
    I just posted a message on the forum, asking if anyone knew about some of the newer distribution methods, which may help you. As I understand it, you would upload your track to a site, then receive a payment for every download. I do not so much about this, but I do know there are possibilities for you.

    Hi Peris, you mentioned your first album sold 300 copies, then a little later you suggest it was 1000 copies, and in a comment below that it was 700. Could you clarify this?

      Hi Jessica, the 300 copies is at January when I applied for the first loan. I did very aggressive marketing after getting my loan and so far I have sold about 700 more copies and this explains the 1000 copies mentioned above.

    I only have one installment to clear my first loan at Zidisha. It has been a journey that I have enjoyed thoroughly. With the money from this loan, I was able to cover more area and this saw an increase of my music sales. I have now sold over 700 copies of my first CD and I am now preparing to record my volume 2.

    I know I can count on you lenders to do my ambitious second project. Than you.

    I have decided to adjust my payment upwards since I have realized I am capable of repaying a higher amount due to the prevailing boom in my business. I also need to cut on the interest payable on this loan as I prepare to apply for a bigger second loan.
