My name is Mrs. Soma Ouedraogo, I was born and raised in Banfora in the province of Comoe, in the Cascades region. I started primary school in 1971 and obtained from primary studies certificate from an all girls school in 1979. After receiving my primary studies certificate, I continued on to secondary school and stopped around age 12. I am now married and am a mother of 4 children, 2 girls and 2 boys, all of which completed school. My oldest son is a water and forests overseer (forest ranger). I am a woman fighting to prove that she can create her own business, making traditional sundresses.
Selling traditional wrap skirts is a very profitable business that is good for the soul. Over a course of the month, I travel to Bobo Dioulasso regularly at least 4 times to stock up on wrap skirts. I have my own stall in the new market in Banfora and that is where I sell my merchandise. My clients are mostly women and young girls. I often am able to sell on credit items to workers for sugar business Comoe Sosuco, for the Treasury department, and financial oversight group. I give them credit options that go up to 2 or 3 months and personally go at the end of each month to collect. The profits I earn allow me to help my husband pay for our children’s education. Receiving a Zidisha loan will allow me to stock up on merchandise.
