Am charming guy born in Central part of Kenya; raised from a very humble background has not deterred me from being whom I am today. I remember many times my mom used to tell me how life can be sweet if I work hard. Not once we went without food but something I was assured is my life would change at any time. I used to go school bare-footed; lol! We come from far like soil from borehole. Regardless of all that I used to shine in school and emerged the best; I got a sponsor who volunteered to pay my school fees. I was in the best school in my county (Muranga High School). I also shined in High school and got grade A- .Am currently pursuing Bachelor's degree in Architecture besides business. Pursing architecture in Kenya is not easy due to various expenses; that is lots of printing that needs cash. Am currently in fifth year; meaning a tough journey has been moved. It reached to a point I was almost dropping to lack of funds to pay for my projects. I had to think very fast and that's how i borrowed fifteen thousand Kenya shillings from a friend and started my small business. I now can fund for my projects, pay my bus fare to school and easily place food at the table.
I am currently selling wheat flour, maize flour, rice, sugar, solid fat, salad oil and soap. Am now a retailer selling to people within Uhuru Market which carries around four thousand people. I target the surrounding hotels within and outside the market. I am intending to be a wholesaler in future. I have already approached flour milling company and they have agreed the offer though i need to give them a deposit which is not easy at the moment since my business is still young. The reason to why I started this kind of business here is because there are so any within with only one other shop so all those people being served by one person the ratio is too big hence the market not flooded. Uhuru market is widely known for clothes hence no its hard someone to have this kind of idea. All concentrate with clothes. The best thing with foodstuff is that everyone needs food hence they have to buy. Besides that there are several restaurants within the market and I have gotten some of them as my clients. The reason to why I want to concentrate with hotels is because they have cook on daily basis hence no day can pass without me selling. Outside the market there are several restaurants too in Bahati, Mbotela and Maringo Estate. All I need is to buy a bike so that i can manage to supply to them too. As I stated earlier I have approached both Mombasa millers and Mumias Sugar Company who have agreed to release their products to my shop. By so doing I will be in a position to serve the shops in the neighboring Estates since there is no shop that deals in bulk. By so doing they will be relieved the burden of going all the way to Eastleigh to buy goods. This will also ease their cost of transport.
Am intending to add three and a half bales of wheat flour, two bales of maize flour and twenty five kilogrammes of rice. This would cost around 100 Us dollars. By so doing I will not have to add stock on daily basis as I do which will reduce my tranport costs.
