My name is Emmanuel Karani,I am the 2nd born son of Mr Rodgers Karani and Mrs. Imelda Nyamitha. We are 7 children in our family. I went to Sigalame secondary school> I completed my secondary education in 2013 ,I passed well and is doing farming to raise fees for a degree course, since my parents can not afford to pay for me.
After completing secondary school ,I stayed at home jobless for a while ,I knew I could not get a white collar job because the market is flooded with graduates who were jobless. I have always wanted to do my own things and that is when the idea of utilizing our two acres peace of land come into my my mind. I knew these was a resource and swung into action. I cleared the land and with the help of friends prepared it for planting. However things did not work as per my expectation,i did not have money to buy seeds and had to plant local non-certified seeds which of-cos did not do well. I got little harvest but used that as a stepping stone.I sold the harvest and prepared for the next season. the next season did not disappoint. I am now diversifying my farm and has started doing horticulture, just to make sure ,my cash flow is constant through out the year.
I like watching football during my free time.I also dedicate some time to teach young girls and boys in my local primary school for there are no enough teachers.
I am a farmer, and I grow maize and vegetables in my farm. Maize is the major activity but i grow vegetables to ensure I get cash always. The returns in both ventures are good .
Maize is a staple food here and the demand is always high.Just in case the prices are low,I always hold my maize so that I can sell later at the best prices.
I choose farming because it was the most profitable business that required little capital .like for my case i started with zero capital.
I spend average $150 a month and my revenues is $350 a month.
I use my profits to support my family through paying fees for my sisters and brothers, business expansion and saving for my degree course.
Due to changes in weather and perishable nature of agricultural commodities, there is need for innovative and inventive measures for conservation during glut and selling during scarcity. I am pleased to ask for a third loan to help me purchase a solar drier that I would use to conserve vegetables and sale during scarcity times at premium prices. These is the best way since no chemicals are use for preservation and the nutritive value remains the same.
I will use $360 for purchasing the equipment, these will protect me from losses occasioned by unforeseen market glut and help me increase my revenues through sales during dry season. Thank you in advance.
