About Me

My name is Jane Wanjira. I was born in Mombasa, Kenya on 20th Sept, 1979. We moved to Nakuru in 1984. I Currently I stay in KITI estate in Nakuru town, Nakuru County formerly Rift Valley Province. I am married and have two children, a boy and a girl. I am a business lady engaging in dairy-farming. I have two cows n a calf (4mths old).
I started this business of dairy farming in 2010, after I was given one dairy cow by my father. One year down the line I realized that the business was viable but could not meet the needs of my customers because the milk produced was not enough and therefore decided to join a local self help group in January 2011 in our home area. The members mainly farmers and small business owners encouraged me to invest with them through table banking (Saving through collective contribution) in order to qualify for a loan from them. The business has really helped me to buy a chuff cutter for making work easier it also helps to me educate my sons and for our up keep.

My Business

I started this business of dairy farming in 2010, after I was given one dairy cow by my father. One year down the line I realized that the business was viable but could not meet the needs of my customers because the milk produced was not enough and therefore decided to join a local self help group in January 2011 in our home area. The members mainly famers and small business owners encouraged me to invest with them through table banking (Saving through collective contribution) in order to qualify for a loan from them. They gave me a loan of Kshs 90,000 thousand of which I bought another Friesian cow, which was in calf at Kshs 65,000. The remaining amount of Kshs 25, 000 I used it to improve the structures to accommodate even the Calf.
The cows produce a total of 32 litres daily. I leave 3 litres, 2 litres for my Calf and one litre for my family consumption. The remaining 29 litres I sell to consumers locally at a cost of Kshs 45 per litre. This translates to Kshs 1, 305 daily and Kshs 39, 150 per month. From this amount I pay for the feeds and drugs which amount to Kshs 12,200. I also pay one worker who helps me take care of these two cows a total of Kshs 4, 000 per month. The total expenses comes to 16, 200/=. Am left with a balance of Kshs 22, 950/=
The business has really helped me to buy a chuff cutter for making work easier it also helps to me educate my sons and for our up keep.
I would like to add my income by adding another milking cow so as to meet the demand of my customers and also to get enough cow dung so as to produce biogas to cook with and for a cleaner environment. It will also improve our leaving standard.

Loan Proposal

Thank you for support,am planing to improve my farming by rearing the quail birds,so that the cows i have can also benefit and feed on the waist from the birds and also the eggs and meat are on demand,
I will buy the chicks 150 @250=37500,the balance i will use on building the structures and also adding my hey for my cows because we are on dry season.Kindly assist.

Your loan has improved my living standard and also the the milk i supply to children home its of great help and they are very happy since they do not lack milk.

I also request for my loan approval since i will also supply the quail eqqs to disadvantaged in the society mostly those affected in HIV and AID since its of great help.

    Jambo Jane,
Thank you for posting an update on your business. I am so happy to have been one of your lenders because you are the type of hard-working person that deserves any and all the help that other can offer. You have a good business mind and know where you are going. I know farming is hard, never-ending work so my hat is off to you for what you are accomplishing. I will be first in line should you need to take another loan.
