About Me

My name is Irene Kwamboka, iam from a humble family of five children where Iam the first born, my other siblings are still in school, I live in Nakuru county, in Nakuru town, near Kabachia estate in Kabachia shopping centre. I was born in Kisii district later on we moved to Nakuru together with my family.
After my high school education I continued with my studies up to vocational college where I trained information technology. later then I worked with various institutions that comprise Kodak company in kisii town in 2006, afterward I was employed by another company of selling cement as a cashier, I worked till 2008 September, then later I decided to open my business I had saved enough capital to start one.
IN 2008 November till December I secured a nice room in Nakuru town where I was to start stocking stationary i.e. office supplies, writing material. I also engaged in computer work (I.T) i.e. Photocopying, printing cyber etc.
The reasons I started my own business is to avoid a lot of inconvenience, also I could not be able to take care of my family with employed salary. Also wanted to work at my own base.

My Business

My business mainly deals with supply of stationeries, writing materials, selling of refreshment.ie sodas, snacks, mineral water etc. I like my business so much because in some case I met new people in the course of the day.
In a week at least every day I do purchase some drinks snacks and mineral water because they are fast moving commodities. About stationeries I supply to various institutions like bank, schools and also DC‘s office.
In business it has its own challenges like when you find two or three people at the similar location or line with the same business. the price also comes in where by you can’t sell a commodity at higher cost you will have to adjust or sell the standard price.
In my business am the one managing sales and I know I have as much as necessary skills and the experience of marketing my business. Actually am using these skills to advance in my business.

    Hello Irene,

I hope that you are well. Thank-you for your message in July. Sometimes I don't check for messages on Zidisha for weeks, because there is always something else to do, too. So I understand when other people don't write back to any messages I might leave. Life is busy. I'm glad that you are keeping at your business even though the economy is presenting challenges for you.

Here near my town there have been wildfires this month because of how hot and dry it has been. There is a lot of forest around here, and with climate change the experts predict there will be more frequent fires in the future.

Fortunately so far this month not many farms have burned, but some herders have lost their cattle.

But, even though the skies have been filled with smoke, we are still getting a lot of tourists, and tourism is a mainstay of the local economy. If people stopped visiting, there would be big problems.

Right now, fresh fruit and vegtables are very cheap here, since the farmers are harvesting the fields and orchards, and if they can sell to local people without paying for shipping their produce to the cities, they can keep more of the price of the fruit, even if the overall price is less. It's a good deal for everyone in town, while the harvest lasts. In the winter nothing grows and we have to pay more, because then food has to be shipped in from far away.

I hope that in your part of Kenya there has been rain and that food expenses are going down again.
    Keep well

hello Zidisha team and lenders.kilmey much greetings too. hope you doing Big fine. i am also dwelling on well although i have not sent you a message for some time . it is because i have been very busy running up and down to make ends meet. well i am going on with the business although the economy has become frustrating but whatever we get keeps us going on. i am trying to work smart so that i can be able to finish paying my loan. like right now its very dry their is no rain even the vegetables the tomatoes are becoming very expensive everything even in the shops the price is going up, so the little you get somebody tries to budget it all the cash goes to basics. But i thank my God i am able to pay my loan although late, also God willing i will try to adjust and pay on time. anyway i thank you so much for your consideration may the lord bless you.

    hi lenders?
I have talked to Irene and she claims she has no debt but I disagreed because even her percentage is 32% speaks volumes about her repayment s.

I actually told her to login in her account and check.

    regards
    VM

Hello, I hope that you had some time to enjoy the festive season even though it is a stressful time, too.
I know that you are hoping a lot that you will be able to take out a larger loan the next time. From what I've learned, it's really important to keep payments on time so that you will be able to qualify for a bigger loan amount in future. I see that you are showing as repaying late again. I think it will be helpful for you to reschedule your current loan repayments to a low amount that you will be able to pay regularly, even though it will make the loan period longer. That way you might be able to build your on time repayment rate back up, which will help when you want to take out a loan again. Perhaps Mr. Njuguna can help you.
Anyway, I wish you a good and healthy new year, and hope that your business will grow.

I do try to support people I have lent to through more then one loan - so I would try to support your next loan, but sometimes I don't have any money to spare. Hopefully you won't have any trouble getting funding again!

    Thank you,

Hey Zidisha Team,It is another moment i do to take time to reschedule my loan to pay next month as the business has gone down for now as i been relaying so much to the institutions while they are still on classes as per now most of them are breaking for holidays, but i believe that by next month some will be admitting in-service and this will mean students back to classes and they will be in need of the stationary,I will be sending my monthly installments by 15th April 2014 .Thank You.

Hello Miss Kwamboka. Thank-you for your steady repayments - and for letting us know why you need to reschedule to get over the time of the school holidays.
This weekend is the end of a holiday for school children in my part of Canada - it is for five weekdays, or nine days with the weekends counted in. We just call it Spring or March Break. Not very fancy! And soon it will be Easter. Do you sell stationery for Easter? Here there are notecards that some people will send for Easter, but it is not really popular. It is mostly the elderly people who still send Easter cards. Anyway, I hope that you are well, and hope to read some more from you soon!
