About Me

In am a Kenyan citizen aged 25 years. I am a business entrepreneur with a degree in Business Management from Egerton University and a holder of various other academic credentials. I have also enrolled for a Master’s program from the same University which I hope to start as from January next year. I am highly skilled in and experienced in the filed of entrepreneurship having been exposed to various entrepreneurial organizations in which I was previously attached. I worked as a sales representative in a busy organization and gained a lot of sales skills and tactics which have highly been impacted in the growth of my current business enterprise. I am an outgoing person with very good communication and social skills and interacts well with people from different walks of life.
I am a resident of Nakuru town in Nakuru County of Kenya living in one of the superb estates within the town. I have been in business for five years now having started as a small scale trader way back in the year 2008; a business which I have so far developed and transformed into a well-to-do enterprise. At the time of its inception, my current business was dealing with purchasing and sale of photocopying papers. With time, I brought on board other services such as computer services and its currently operates as computer technicians and general stationers. I am married with a son who is currently in his pre-primary level of education. My wife works with an NGO within Nakuru town as an accountant. My area of residents is very secure and the environs around which we live is highly agriculturally productive; a factor which has motivated my wife and I to acquire, through lease, a one-acre piece of land for commercial agriculture. We live a very simple life with very minimal expenses and often opt to walk the short distance to and from work in order to save on our costs as opposed to taking a cab. We live in a rental house for which we pay US $ 50 (Ksh 4,500) each month.
My business does amazingly well and has grasped a reasonably proportion of the market share over time. It currently yields a net profit of US $ 250 (Ksh 22,500) every month. I have two employees who are in charge of marketing and financial operations of the business. I am fully in charge of management of the business; a role which I have always played very well. I only seek to advance to greater levels and reach out to other markets within the country and possibly across the boarders. With the change of government, devolution and other advancements both in the legal sector and in the trade industry, business has only been made better, easier and more profitable and we are looking forward to more better things. Personally, as an entrepreneur, I am very optimistic that such schemes as Zidisha will only reach us to greater heights and help us achieve our goals as individuals in the business world.

My Business

My business is located in Nakuru town CBD and has been operated for five years within the area. At the time of its inception, the business was dealing with purchasing and sale of photocopying papers. With time, I brought on board other services such as computer services and it currently operates as computer technicians and general stationers. The main products that the business deals in include printing and photocopying papers of different kinds, binding materials, books and other stationery. The business also sells and repairs computers both laptop and desktop computers although this is still done in small volumes due to inadequate capital for the purchase of branded computers for re-sale. Alongside these, other services offered include printing, scanning, photocopying and binding services. I have managed to attract and retain a large numbr of customers over the time which i have operated the business. This has been made possible by the high levels of discipline which have always been maintained within this business, good customers relations and the high quality of goods and services offered by the business. My major customers include schools and other learning institutions, churches, individuals, companies and other organizations using computers for various applications. The business sells stationery on special order to schools and institutions including course books, revision papers and examination materials. Bibles and other inspirational materials are sold to churches, individuals and other organziations. The business offers after sale services such as giving free installation of programs and free transport for bulk purchase of computers and other stationery. The business yields average profit margins and has acquired a reasonable market share within its area of operation courtesy of the quality of services and products offered. This has enabled it to survive despite the stiff competition from other similar businesses. My business does amazingly well and has grasped a reasonably proportion of the market share over time. It currently yields a net profit of US $ 250 (Ksh 22,500) every month. I have also been able to plough back my profits and drive the business to higher levels which has also contributed to its rapid growth and expansion within a short time. I have two employees who are in charge of marketing and financial operations of the business. I am fully in charge of management of the business; a role which I have always played very well. I only seek to advance to greater levels and reach out to other markets within the country and possibly across the boarders. With the change of government, devolution and other advancements both in the legal sector and in the trade industry, business has only been made better, easier and more profitable and we are looking forward to more better things to come. Personally, as an entrepreneur, I am very optimistic that such schemes as Zidisha will only reach us to greater heights and help us achieve our goals as individuals in the business world.

Loan Proposal

The previous loan which was advanced to me by ZIdisha Team enabled me to achieve most of my business dreams and aspirations. I was able to buy more stock in my computer services business. I will use this loan to buy more computers for internet browsing that will cost KSh 10,000. I will use KSh KSh 5,000 to buy reams of printing papers which are on high demand in the area and KSh 23,000 to buy commercial photocopying machine since the existing one cannot adequately meet the high demand for the photocopy services within my business area. I also get tenders from schools and churches and I need two photocopying machines in order to serve my customers satisfactorily. I am so grateful to Zidisha Inc. Thank you very much.

    Hello Lenders and Zidisha Team,

I received a message from Fredrick Omamo and he explained that after losing his equipment he has been facing hardships and struggling to keep his family afloat. Nevertheless, he feels his business is just beginning to recover and has a more positive future outlook. For this reason, he needs help with rescheduling his loan repayments and promises to try his best to keep up to date with the new repayment plan.

    Hi Zidisha Team,
Its been quite sometime since I last communicated nor gave any formal message to my lenders regarding my loan repayment status. Infact I have just read for the first time all the comments that have been posted in my profile by my VMs and lenders since March this year. It was not due to my fault nor my own making. Im glad one of my VMs explained to my lenders on my behalf the predicaments that had befallen me late last year and affected my business so much so that I have not been in any position to repay anything so far on my borrowed loan. Long story short, I am currently having problems with my loan repayment and I do not want to look like I am being ungrateful for the favors that I got from my lenders and the entire zidisha team. I wish to request Zidisha Microfinance to kindly give me an opportunity to make the minimum payments on a monthly basis because the constant messages I receive on a weekly basis and the short period of 7 days to get the money is also emotionally disturbing. I wish to request humbly that I be allowed to make monthly installments as I had been making in my previous loan since this will give me time to get back my business on track and improve on my repayment history since I would still wish to benefit from zidisha in the near future and also give others the same opportunity I had to benefit from zidisha microfinance. Kindly allow me and help me reschedule my loans from weekly payments to minimum monthly payments that would favor my current financial and emotional situations. Thank you.

      Dear Fredrick,

First, thank you for this update- I know your lenders appreciate a better understanding of your current situation.

Secondly, I apologize that we missed seeing your message until now! We unfortunately cannot change your payments from weekly to monthly, but instead I would suggest this. First, reschedule your loan to an amount you can comfortably pay each week. Then, at the beginning of each month, make one payment that clears your dues for the next four weeks. This way, you can pay on time and an amount you are able to afford, without having to be stressed about making payments each week.

If you have any questions about this, please let us know!
      Best,
      Bayle, Zidisha Team

I spoke to Mr. Fredrick Omamo yesterday and he promised to log on to his Zidisha account and personally update lenders on his position. Unfortunately, I see he did not live up to that promise and I will speak to him once again to find out if he is facing difficulties.

    Hi lenders,

I am a Kenya Virtual Volunteer with Zidisha. Mr. Omamo notified one of his mentors that he will resume payments by the end of April. He has been facing financial difficulties.

    Best,
    Rachel

I phoned Mr. Fredrick Omamo and he notified me that he will reschedule his loan repayments beginning end of April, 2014. I have requested him to personally update lenders so they are aware of his position and make a reschedule program that fits his current financial status. I will update if I get any more information or progress on the same

I am a VM. I phoned Omamo today 4.55pm. He explained that one of his employees stole his business equipment/ items. The case is with the police. However, he has recently recovered some equipment. He is promising to repay about $110 at start of April.

      Mr. Shehi,

Thank you once again for following up on a delinquent borrower.

Mr. Omamo's case is very unfortunate. What is more unfortunate is that a simple personal message from Mr. Omamo could have reassured his lenders.

I'm glad he was able to recover some of his equipment and hope to soon see a first installment from him.

I'm curious if Zidisha will do anything to remind borrowers such Frederick that lenders expect repayments.

If Zidisha don't know how (or don't want) to contact such borrowers, then people should avoid this website.

    Mr. Omamo,

Are you planning on paying anytime soon? Remember, Zidisha is a microlending organization, not a charity.

    Frederick,

At this point all I can say is that I am extremely disappointed. We, the lenders, made a good faith leap by lending you the money and now we are unable to even get an update on your situation. Please live up to your commitment and give us some news.

    Fredrick,

How are things going for you and your business? I hope the festive season went well. Could you please give your lenders an update? It's been a few weeks now that your first repayment came due and we haven't had an update nor have you rescheduled your loan.

    Thanks,
    Cris

I am a member of zidisha and I am currently servicing my first loan which is 39% repaid and has never been in arrears at any given time. Surprisingly, my credit limit has reduced even though I have ever since maintained a 100% on-time repayment . Besides I also have a Ksh 1,000 bonus which I earned when I posten a comment that met your criteria for the bonus awards. I was optimistic that I would advance to greater loans and acquire more loans from the Zidisha community by maintaining high levels of obedience to the terms and conditions of zidisha inc.

I kindly wish to request that you advice me on the reasons why you decided to reduce my credit limit from Ksh 26,758 down to Ksh 25,758.

    Thank you

Sometimes back, I could not just make two ends meet. A few months ago, I was struggling with my business trying to drive it to my desired levels but in vain. Meeting my expenses was in itself a nightmare and at some point I nearly though to quitting business. But then Zidisha came in and changed everything all at once. Personally, I believe that Zidisha is not just a peer-to-peer microlending platform. Zidisha is a God-sent opportunity that business investors of our time have been privileged to access and receive great benefits in such an easy way that has never been experienced since time immemorial. Since I knew Zidisha, I bid bye bye to micro creditors in our town who neither knew ethics nor courtesy, who would rudely interrupt your investment activities whenever they would feel to do so. Zidisha Team knows that I am an investor and I that I need peace of mind even as I continue with my investment activities and that is truly what they give. Thanks a million times Zidisha.

Hi Zidisha Team. Once again I wish to appreciate your efforts in ensuring that the Zidisha program is a success. I would also wish to raise a suggestion based on the Zidisha microfinance program. Zidisha has successfully succeeded in providing micro-financial resources to to enrepreneurs across the world. However, one area that has not been fully exhausted is provision of investment advice and strategies to business people. Access to financial loans is one thing but the ability to effectively utilize the financial resources does not not lie with every other person. Providing financial loans may either empower or frustrate an individual depending on the strategies laid down for the investment plan. I would therefore suggest that Zidisha makes it accessible for enterpreneurs to receive basic training and investment advice on various issues that affect business investments. Some of the major challenges that face business people include inadequate knowledge in financial management, business ethics, communication skills, legal issues in business and most importantly, the ability to attract and retain customers. If there would be a way through which such issues can be dealt with, then business would be all the more exiting and impressive. Thank you
