About Me

I am a young, vibrant and energetic young lady from Ghana. i am hardworking and very inventive. I plan to become the owner of a large retail business in the near future. I am the first of 4 children. My parents are both retired teachers and they live in Hohoe, Volta Region. I live in takoradi with my younger siblings. The youngest is a girl and is still in Senior High School in fijai. The other 2 boys help me in my detergent supply business. I have a diploma in business Administration from the polytechnic. I started this business because of how hard it is to get a job in Ghana and also to be able to support my little sister in school and also fend for the rest of my siblings.

My Business

I run a detergent supply business. I buy dilute concentrated detergent and mix into various fragrances and supply to hospitals and restaurants in my area. I operate from home and supply using public transport. I started by borrowing some money from a local microfinance company. I paid everything within 3 months and made profit. I spend about $400 every month to buy gallons of detergent. When i mix and resell, i make 30-50% profit. i.e. $150. The market for this business is good because unlike other sellers i supply directly to the doorstep of the hospitals and restaurants. This i believe gives me an edge over others who wait for buyers to come to their shops. Also i have over 10 different fragrance mixtures i develop myself. I want to grow this business and expand into other areas. I want to reach more people and to do this i will purchase a small van and also rent a small garage and move the business there. I look forward to much support from Zidisha to achieve my aim.

Loan Proposal

there is a lot of room for growth in the detergent supply business in takoradi, ghana. there is enough demand too. to meet this demand, i will buy more dilute concentrate liqiud detergent and increase my production of mixed fragrant detergent for supply to more hospitals and restaurants. this will boost my sales and increase my profit. this will go a long way to help support my little sister in school and other siblings and eventually help realise my dream of renting a garage as my work place and buying a van for suppy in future.

      Mr. Nkrumah,

Thank you for trying to contact Ms. Gold. I would appreciate it if you could continue trying to contact her and her family and friends which she listed. It would be good to verify that the contact information she listed is actually legitimate and not fictional.

In the meantime, if you as a VM could contact Zidisha directly and tell them what is going on - that Ms. Gold is unresponsive - it would be helpful. I don't know what the situation in Ghana is, but in Kenya many of the first loans made were paid and then the borrower disappears right after taking out a second, larger loan. Since Ms. Gold does not respond, I am starting to wonder if this will not be one such case.

The defaults of less-than-honest borrowers has been affecting Zidisha negatively. I have slowed down my lending to a crawl and will have to rethink if it is worth to continue lending at all. Many other lenders are doing the same. Let's hope Ms. Gold is not one of the many borrowers that will damage Zidisha beyond repair.

      Thanks,
      Cris

Akpene, I understand you are also a volunteer mentor, which is very much
appreciated, but can you explain how you were able to progress from
    a $50 loan to one for $474?
I think your business plans are excellent and foresee a great future
for you. I will support you financially before bidding closes.

      Hello qt9998,
I confirm, part of the amount of the new loan depends on Akpene's good repayment rate of her previous loan. Part depends on the bonus she received for inviting new members in the Zidisha community.
Thanks Akpene for being such a wonderful borrower and Volunteer Mentor!
      Best,
      Roberta
