I'm Silas Maina from ilala village, western part of Kenya. I'm the last born in a family of six children. I cleared my Secondary education in 2019 and and decided to venture into farming activities. Farming is the main source that is sustaining my life. I love growing crops and keeping chicken.
My main source of income is from keeping of chicken and growing of vegetables for local consumption in my area. Since joining Zidisha I earn 40 USD per week from my business. The profit I pocket per week is 17.5 USD per week, this profit helps me in expanding my business and supporting my life together with my family.
I first of all thank lenders that funded my previous loan, I also thank the lender who will help in funding this loan. I have made a business plan to purchase eight more paultry layers worth 40 USD, this will boost my existing business, the number of eggs sold per day will increase by eight hence the income will also increase per week. The remaining 20 USD I will purchase Collard kale seeds to make a nursery bed and transplant when ready. The kales will generate money in two phases, the first one is by selling seedlings to neighbours and the second one is selling mature kale as vegetables to consumers. The other income from paultry will be used to repay Zidisha loan on weekly basis.
As an ambitious and upcoming farmer, I do other jobs like digging for neighbours' land for daily wages, making mad bricks for people, helping in cutting canes and many more manual works. From all these I will manage to subsidize the mai business hence making it possible repaying Zidisha dispite the Corona Pandemic. I normally earn 4.5 USD per day when I work for my neighbours, and this is made possible whereby I work for them before embarking on my business.
