About Me

I am Mararo Daniel, a Kenyan citizen. I am 28 years old. I was born in a family of four, and I am the third born. My parents were farmers. I am married with one kid. I come from a village where people have not been civilized. People are still living in traditions.

It is through my parents that I am now who I am. They encouraged us to plant trees when we were young. From that, I was able to get capital with which I started the business.

I first thought of what I could do to help sustain myself and my family. It wasn't until a friend gave me an idea of starting a business of selling timbers that I went ahead and searched for the market. I asked my friend, who had a power saw, to help me make timber and I would pay him after selling them. When they were ready, the buyer came and collected them by himself.

With the little money he gave me, I went to Kisii town and got a small plot for two years and built a temporary store. I then went again and cut 6 trees and made timbers. I transported them to my timber yard. I now can buy trees and make timbers for myself.

My dream is one day to buy my own plot, build a big timber yard, and have my own pickup.

My Business

I own a small timber yard. I buy trees from farmers and hire someone with a power saw to make me timbers. I can sometimes buy ready timbers and transport them to my timber yard.

It is through a friend that I decided to start that kind of business. It wasn't until I started that I realized that timbers have high demand. Timbers have many uses. One, they can make furniture. They can also be used in building and have so many other uses.

From that small business, I can sell up to $600 in a month. From that, I make a profit of $150 a month. I use my profit to pay rent ($40). The rest I use to feed my family.

Loan Proposal

I would like to add stock, more trees for making timbers. I fell sick and spent business money at the hospital. I would like to buy two trees, each costing $50 USD. I will be able to buy more trees to stand by. Not when my stock get finished is when I am looking for more trees. This shall keep my business running without closing because of inadequate stock.

Daniel has used Zidisha long enough to know how important repayment is, yet he borrowed $534.00 over a year ago and has not made a single repayment towards this amount. I would not trust him with another loan.

It has been a busy day as we have transported firewood from my farm to Kineni secondary. I hope again by mid June, I could have supplied them another trip. Since it was my own tree plantation, I count it as additional capital. In fact this may help me progress as I need more capital to take over that tender I handed to my friend, if not taking over, we combine forces with him.

      Dear Michael Lee Dodge,
I was Lucky to be given a tender of supplying firewood to Nyansiongo and Kineni secondary schools. But due to financial challenges, I have decided to surrender one school to my friend. Kindly please, if you supported me, I will be greatful. In fact it is a contract that will expire on December. By December, if I would have performed, then they may renew my contract. I can't make it minus the support from Zidisha. Hope to hear from you. Thanks in advance.

I am forced to drop a contract of one school and give it to my friend. It is some local arrangement between me and him, in that I allow him use my Name. I have done it since I have weighed my self and realized that, I can't satisfy the two schools due to my financial position.

I have managed to get five trees each going at $40. Am calculating on how to split firewood by Monday. Also I visited my small forest where I discovered that I can get about twenty trees to boost my contract. Below is a photo of my forest.

In fact, today I have learnt much about zidisha. Before, I would only check on common features like; dashboard, post comment, credit limit. But would not learn of other forum where you can interact with friends world wide. At least now I can be following up announcements and other discussions.
